A self-identifying "middle-class white woman" just called into WJ
She said that when you add up all the so-called minorities, whites are the real minority.


Gosh.

I never realized how tough it is to be white.

3. It's a bigger world than you think
I have more than one family member who blame all loss of promotions or failure to be hired for a job on anti white prejudice on the part of the employers. And I hear about it every year at Thanksgiving. And I always respond by telling them how grateful I am that I was born white because a lot of doors remained open to me due to that fact alone.

And this really pisses them off.

I love the choice to distinguish whites from "all the rest," as if "all the rest" are a uniform group unto themselves simply because they've failed to be white!

On the plus side, if she'd take that reasoning just one step further, she'd see how arbitrary the whole distinction is.

That's the same idea that brought us an alleged connection between al-Qaeda and the government of Iraq. It's important for people to begin to separate that idea from the mass of "common sense" ideas that are generally accepted. The idea needs more attention, not less. Anyone who voices that idea should be praised, not criticized. The idea itself, of course, isn't something that can be relied upon.

aren't whites a minority now, or close to it? what is the count of all minorities vs whites in the US?

and, NO, I'm not being racist to ask these questions.

I mean, it wasn't until recently that the world realized that there are more women in the world then men and there are more women in the US then men.

It isn't any big secret or new discovery...

We are born at a slightly higher ratio...
and we tend to outlive men by 6 or 7 years.

13. Your questions are okay, but her framing of the issue is racist gerrymandering
In essence, she has arbitrarily set whites against "them" on no basis other than "because they're not white." Of course, she doesn't articulate exactly how she draws the distinction or what qualifies as "white." Presumably she'll know 'em when she sees 'em.

Even if we ignore the artificiality of "race" in this context, we still have no basis to filter out "whites" as their own endangered minority.

In 2005, 80.2% of the US was 'white'. Even if you subtract all the hispanics at 14.4%, the US is still 65.8% white. Should hispanics be subtracted? Aren't Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen as white as I am? If you figure there are another 20 million illegal immigrants, then we are still over 60% white.

25. When it comes down to it, few if any are of a single race or ethnicity
and no one, especially in Government, can naysay whatever you claim, though I have seen it tried. I monkey wrench the race counters every time I can. Being sort of a human mutt, I can claim to be just about anything.

What she means to say is "Oh my God all these black and brown people may outnumber me and my lily white ilk and I don't want them to treat me the way I treat them. I deserve better than that."

Yet it never occurs to her and the assholes who think like her that perhaps she should change the way she looks at "minorities" in the first place.
