What are CORE issues you feel would make our system of governing better?
I don't mean healthcare and all the valid, necessary programs. I mean foundational ways our country works (or doesn't).

The first two which come to mind for me this morning are:

1. Campaign finance reform. Therein lies the root of many of our evils, IMO.

2. Media/lack of effective free press. Ties in with #1 given that the corporations which OWN the mainstream media have become mere propagandists rather than outlets for investigative journalism.

2. Campaign finance reform, election reform
We need matching grants for small donors to political candidates and parties, maybe a 4:1 matching system up to $250 per person. It would only cost about $2 billion a year to make our politics funded by public funds, but we'd save 10s of billions a year because we'd eliminate corporate bribery that leads to unnecessary spending by doing that.

We also need runoff voting so people are not forced to pick the least evil candidate.

A free press, like you said, is deeply important and we don't have one. We have a corporate media designed to sell products, influence public opinion and CYA.

5. Your number one is my number one. Without that, the corps.
own this country. This one issue is what kills "we the people", we give our power away every day by not tackling this.

6. I think there should be a judicial review board
I think that there should be a way to QC legal decisions w/o using the assembly line approach that leads to the Supreme Court. In Don Siegelman's case, the DOJ plays hands off while this mockery of justice goes on and on. Also Bush v Gore and a host of other questionable decisions. There should be recourse for a corrupted judiciary system. Bush packed the Supreme Court and the federal bench with loyal Bushies; it is ludicrous to expect a return to the rule of law from them.

I wonder if it would help considering the current climate if Don Siegelman changed his party affiliation to Republicn since his punishment is clearly related to his political affiliation.
