As stupid as we want to be
Like Jesse Ventura asks--if waterboarding isn't torture, why don't we use it on criminal suspects? Why didn't we use it on Timothy McVeigh?

Duh. Because it IS torture.

It's nice that Darth Cheney crawled out of his hole and is currently making the rounds of the talk-show circuit. If people weren't tired of his vile aura already, they're going to be doubly tired of it now. Even half the radical crazies that make up a large part of the Republican base can't stand the guy--and they're nearly as crazy as he is. What does that say about him? Nothing good, I assure you. Too crazy evil for the crazies. Now THERE'S something to which to aspire.

His daughter is apparently on the circuit too, telling people that "yes, my father is an evil Sith Lord, but that doesn't make him bad. He's just misunderstood. Torture, thousands dead, fabricated evidence--it's all in the interest of protecting America."

Uh-huh.

Nice to see the "liberal" media is eating this shit up. Can you say "cancerous growth on the American body politic?" I knew you could. Of course, I'm not sure if that label applies to the Cheneys or the corporate media itself. Or does it apply to all parties involved?

You be the judge.

Nancy Pelosi is beginning to see the downside of the whole "impeachment is off the table" position. This act of mercy (all too common with Democrats) has resulted in the freed animal whirling around and subsequently savaging its savior (a response all too common with Republicans). You'd think they'd learn, but it doesn't seem like they do. Clinton gave them a pass on everything that had come before (Iran/Contra, anyone?) and, in repayment, they tore into him like a pack of starving jackals.

It's really not mercy. It may just be cowardice. Political cowardice. And it does no one any good. It's functionally a betrayal of American ideals, of the very concept of justice, and it doesn't really cover the ass of the one who's doing it. Republicans are apparently incapable of gratitude or mercy, and see it as a weakness. And the weak are treated as prey. If they see even one of their own go down, they'll turn on him or her just as eagerly.

So why do we (they) keep giving them a pass? Good question. Obama's doing it with his whole "look ahead, not behind" rationale. Unfortunately, this precludes spotting the cabal of fanged beasts creeping up on his ass looking to chew him to shreds at the first possible opportunity. Had he the foresight to "look behind" he'd be able to rope them in and put them in cages where they could cause far less damage.

I hope we're ready to go through this again in ten to fifteen years. Because, like clockwork, they'll be back around. They're nothing if not persistent. It appears too many of our people have a BIG blind spot. And it's become so obvious that the rest of us are like an audience at a horror flick, screaming "no, the monster isn't dead! Don't walk away! Ah, crap!" when the beast lunges from the floor and bites the hero's head off.

We're left sitting in our comfy chair saying "See--we told you so."

1. Reminds me of the Waco Kid's story in 'Blazing Saddles'
Hearing someone say "Draw", he spun around, going for his weapon, then saw it was a ten year old kid. He dropped his gun, turned and walked away - and the little bastard shot him in the ass.

We ALWAYS turn and walk away, and ALWAYS wind up getting shot in the ass.

3. That's a fantastic visual
Obama's doing it with his whole "look ahead, not behind" rationale. Unfortunately, this precludes spotting the cabal of fanged beasts creeping up on his ass looking to chew him to shreds at the first possible opportunity.

Someone should do a drawing of Obama staring off "Forward" while a group of drooling animals labeled "Torture" "Cheney" and "Republicans" creep up on him from the rear.

it is also improtant to look back, in order to see what mis steps have been taken, regarding events like 9/11 (I mean, there wasn't much response in terms of our air power stopping the planes)
