Sheldon Whitehouse is on Ed saying that there will be
a Truth Commission!
The more people understand about the underlying facts the more meaningless will be this escapade - political stunt - with Pelosi.

Go Whitehouse!!!

2. I would prefer a special prosecutor
a truth commission will be forced to subpoena Bush lawyers, who will claim executive privilige and then force it to the courts... or, they will negotiate testimony that is not on record, not recorded and not public.

7. Truth Commissions usually lead to findings that lead to calls for forgiveness and
reconciliation.

We don't need forgiveness or reconciliation. We need investigations that turn up EVIDENCE and lead to PROSECUTIONS. Then, let the TRUTH come out under oath in a court of law.

16. Remember, if we don't prosecute, other countries will. They'd stand a better
chance for a fair trial here.

11. Truth Commissions are more suited to countries that have had civil war
Or large numbers of civilians who have been repressed and harassed. It's meant for situations that have NO easily implemented solutions without MASSIVE prosecutions of whole segments of society.

In this case, the criminals here are identified, small in number and have committed acts that are clearly defined crimes.

I don't see the rationale for a "Truth Commission" here.

13. He did say "accountability commission" and "inevitable."
Whether he's right or not, well... But "accountability" is at least a slightly better characterization (for the beltway-blinded).

What we need of course is nothing short of a US Nuremberg Tribunal. One with full charging, trial, and sentencing power. We have Justice Souter available to give it the necessary gravitas and apolitical character.

But that would almost certainly make far too much sense for our DC/Euphemedia Analstocracy.

We should all live long enough to see such a Redemption of Our National Soul.

14. A "truth commission" will not cut it. Criminals cannot investigate themselves.

The more they push for this instead of a Special Prosecutor, the more I'll be convinced they're all complicit.
