Military burns unsolicited Bibles sent to Afghanistan
(CNN) -- Military personnel threw away, and ultimately burned, confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two most common Afghan languages amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday.

The unsolicited Bibles sent by a church in the United States were confiscated about a year ago at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan because military rules forbid troops of any religion from proselytizing while deployed there, Lt. Col. Mark Wright said.

Such religious outreach can endanger American troops and civilians in the devoutly Muslim nation, Wright said.

"The decision was made that it was a 'force protection' measure to throw them away, because, if they did get out, it could be perceived by Afghans that the U.S. government or the U.S. military was trying to convert Muslims," Wright told CNN on Tuesday.

Troops at posts in war zones are required to burn their trash, Wright said.

9. St. Paul never met Jesus.
He co-opted the Christian faith on the basis of a hallucination witnessed by no-one else.

11. I think he'd be in agreement

of course, I don't know him on a personal level but I've seen him in concert a few times and I've followed his career, and he seems a level-headed chap who'd agree that if you're going to have a crusade at least don't let it look like a Crusade.

Oh...sorry....I thought you were talking about Sir Paul...

7. That's the first positive step toward respecting the local culture
I've seen and certainly would never have been done with Stupid in office.

This is a positive step and the kind of thing that will eventually reassure the locals to the point we can declare victory and get the hell out of there.

10. What kind of local culture is such that a good first step to respecting it is burning books?
For example, can you name one country in the world where a good first step to respecting the local culture would be burning copies of the Koran? For example, how about North Korea? Or maybe in Saudi Arabia you would be showing respect by burning Korans that are translations and that don't include the original Arabic?
