Pardon me for asking - but is Al Franken a Senator yet?
I mean, does Norm Coleman really think he has a chance in Hell of ever getting that seat back?

1. No, and probably not.

2. Norm could win this yet.
Al Franken and every other Minnesota resident could be abducted by aliens.

Norm could hold a new election and vote himself in.

3. They need to make Franken's term 6 years from when he is finally seated.
Enough of this!

4. Norm is just dragging it out at this point
and, while there's a slim chance the MNSC could install him the way the USSC installed Stupid in 2001, the chance is very slim.

Now that he's got an infusion of cash from the RNC, he'll probably play more games after the court hears the case on June 1.

Sometimes I think the only way Franken will get seated by a governor as hostile as Pawlenty is would be for Coleman to come down with something rapidly fatal.

8. Rapidly fatal... It's hard to wish that upon anyone except Bush and Cheney, but Karma can happen. nt

5. Franken's bio was presented this morning on NPR...
...in Garrison Keillor's "Writers' Almanac." Keillor summarized the highpoints of Franken's career, ending with his campaign for the Minnesota U.S. Senate seat and concluding: "...and Franken was never heard from again."

6. PAWLENTY just said he would "follow the court's direction". Made it sound
like the court would have to ORDER him SPECIFICALLY to certify FRANKEN. But looks like he's breaking the news to the wingnuts.

7. Franken's not a senator yet, and Norm Coleman is just an asshole.
Edited on Thu May-21-09 03:00 PM by Thegonagle
I've thought he was an asshole ever since he switched from Democrat to Re:puke: midway through his first term as mayor of St. Paul. (That was back in the early 1990's.)

We'll know more June 1, when the MN Supremes hear Coleman's arguments.

Oh, and I bet we change our law to allow for a provisional certificate of election after this fiasco; if we had a provisional election certificate, Al Franken could have been seated as soon as the administrative recount concluded back on January 5th. (Coleman could have still challenged the election, but Franken would still be senator unless hell freezes over, and a Minnesota election is overturned by the courts for, AFAIK, the first time ever.)
