1. No. I believe that several detainees were tortured
specifically by Bush and Cheney.

Dick Cheney is mad as a hatter, and Bush is a sadist.

4. I thought it was said 3 waterboarded
But many more were tortured using the same method they went to Iraq and taught.

7. You see how they have done this?
They have substituted the word "waterboarded" with "torture" so that all of the other incredibly sadistic treatments are somehow no longer considered "torture"

That's what this whole debate has been for, to make us all agree that it's *only* the waterboarding that is actually torture

12. I wish I could recommend your post - they have been framing this
Just so our Congress critters fall for that concept. Even though in the same WH memos that authorize waterboarding they authorize many other forms of torture, those are now deemed to be lesser crimes and not "real" torture.

They are all torture. They are all illegal. They are all war crimes. And we need to remind our elected officials of this.

15. They still control the conversation completely.
Obama said the words 'enhanced interrogation'. By using them, he's given them credibility. It's TORTURE and always has been. Remember the George Carlin bit on how the powerful use language to hide their crimes? It's not 'used' cars, it's 'pre-owned'. Miniature candies aren't 'mini-candies', no, they're 'fun-size'.

It's Madison Avenue meets the Inquisition.

Did I miss something here? Is it now ok to murder 2 people if you don't murder 500? Since when did crimes become legal based on volume?

19. When someone has lied to you a hundred times, do you still believe a word?
Why the world would anyone listen to a known liar, is way beyond me. Why he gets any credibility is beyond me. Anyone familiar with Abu Ghraib? No? Well, here's the testimony of the detainees that were there:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/world/iraq/abughraib/swornstatements042104.html

Read through that, and know that this wasn't a few bad apples, it was systemic and was carefully planned. Know also that all that stuff went on not only in prisons in our direct control, but at many 'black site' prisons where we made a deal with other countries to let us use their lenient human rights values to our advantage. Then read through the leaked Red Cross report on the detainees Guantanamo Bay.

Original here (pdf):
http://www.nybooks.com/icrc-report.pdf

and a summary:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/15/AR2009031502724.html

The International Committee of the Red Cross concluded in a secret report that the Bush administration's treatment of al-Qaeda captives "constituted torture," a finding that strongly implied that CIA interrogation methods violated international law, according to newly published excerpts from the long-concealed 2007 document.

And if you really want to know how this whole sordid mess came about, this is a great place to start:

Here is a good review of her book (graphic photos):

Just three people, my ass.
