4. i think that might be why
i skipped the last speech. i need my outrage to stop myself from slipping into oblivion and apathy and letting it all just play out in front of me. it's hard enough to get myself off my ass as it is. but i am so convinced after the disaster of the gwbush administration that the only way to achieve anything even close to justice is by the people remaining actively engaged in the process.

WHY isn't he ending the wars?! WHY is he kissing ass to the banks instead of instituting a bottom up economy? HOW can he leave guantanamo open and leave all those people twisting in the wind with no chance at justice? HOW can he urge the courts to dismiss Plame's eminently valid lawsuit? WHY hasn't a special prosecutor been appointed to go after the bush admin war criminals?! WHY wasn't universal health care - minus the parasitic insurance companies - allowed a seat at the table?

yeah, i'm still pissed. and i need to be, we all need to be.

it's a good toon. it didn't make me laugh though, it was too much like looking in the mirror.

14. STRAWMAN ALERT!
There are some aspects of human psychology that simply span all walks of life and all categories of human beings...left, right, center, authoritarian, libertarian, rastafarian, whatever.

Denial may well be the most powerful human drive in existance. If not, it's a close second only to sex drive.

And throwing up rhetorical, falsely premised, either/or, 0/1, oversimplified strawmen in "self-defense" ranks right up there too, with denial of ego-damaging truth and it's cousin, known in psychology as the Discount Rate (look it up).

That and sex drive. Greed, maybe, as well. There are no more powerful forces in human history.

Perhaps another straw man in you self-defense of ego? Another falsely-premised either/or 0/1 statement?

Or maybe a personal insult? Most people find it easiest to respond with that, since it requires the least amount of though and feels good to the deliverer.

6. Katrina, Don Siegelman, warrantless wiretapping,
It's amazing how consistently he's failed on these issues.

9. It was an attempt to paint the poster as saying Bush was better than Obama.
Apparently you are just supposed to suck it up and enjoy how Obama says one thing and does another. Because he's not Bush.

12. More examples of Obama keeping the Bush policies in place.
I'm not saying he's as bad, but I'm running out of patience on these major issues and Obama's curious stances on them.

11. I didn't have that reaction to his speech. I got pissed off about "relitigating the past".
How can you relitigate things that have never been litigated? The reason so many people are crying out for accountability is that the law has been flagrantly violated and nobody's done jack shit about it. To stand there in front of the Constitution and allude to what's been going on as if it were nothing more than neighbors who've been haggling over their fence-lines in court for umpety years is appalling.
