Okay, so I'm a huge Cold War history buff, especially nuclear war related films. Anyway, my best friend Joey sent me a text message a couple of hours ago. I just looked at what he sent me and was amazed. Enjoy!

8. was thinking the same thing.....
best movie ever, maybe?

certainly no more effrontery from a director. WTF was he thinking to make that when he did....a total farce re: nucular annihilation

know what city Col. Kong was really talking about when he was picking through the survival kit as they headed for their rendezvous with destiny?

Changed for fairly obvious reasons after November 22, 1963.

20. Oh yeah! I forgot about that!
A few years back I was paging through a book about Kubrick's films, and it mentioned that fact. It also mentioned the startling accuracy he was able to achieve in his design of hte bomber's cockpit based on just one (or maybe a few) non-classified photograph.

7. Was that along the Gulf Coast?
That looks like cumulonimbus thunderstorm clouds with the sun coming through or sunlight bouncing off.

2. Watch for cumulus (puffy) clouds that start to rapidly develop vertically (up) to become cumulonimbus thunderstorm clouds. On hot and humid days, these storms occur over water as the radiant heat from the land absorbs moisture from nearby water and rises to produce thunderheads.

This is an example of a cumulus cloud that is growing vertically (up). The bottom of the cloud is made of water droplets and the top is made of ice crystals.

The cloud may be described as "boiling" but not because it's hot. Parts of the cloud roll in a circular motion, much like boiling water.

A thunderstorm could develop very quickly.

13. They are nature - they are beautiful
Even if they can lead to destruction.

Disclaimer - those are not my pics. I found them with Google Image search using "cumulonimbus clouds" for the search words.

19. reminds me of an old lyric by Hendricks
Scuse me while I reform the sky!

also how wacky was it that Failsafe was being made at almost exact same time as Dr. Strangelove. What about all the other right wing takeover movies filmed during Kennedy years? Was there something in the air those Knights of Omaha, Fernandos?

22. Question - which would represent more energy, that thunderhead or a mushroom cloud?
Consider the potential energy that might be released of that storm were to fully expend itself. Now consider the energy remaining after the blast in the mushroom cloud from the explosion of a nuclear device that would generate a similar cloud. Which would be more energetic?
