PHOTO: Probably the sweetest and most eloquent photo I've seen yet of our president
Edited on Sat May-23-09 02:29 AM by Empowerer
It's likely that this was posted previously - and if it has, I apologize for redundancy - but I just think this is the sweetest thing I've seen in a long time!

President Barack Obama bends over so the son of a White House staff member can pat his head during a family visit to the Oval Office May 8, 2009. The youngster wanted to see if the President's haircut felt like his own. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

1. You are right...
It's worth a million words!

I'll bet it becomes one of the iconic images of his administration!

2. At first I thought the kid was giving him a noogie! LOL
When my kids were little I would ask them "What would you rather have, and Indian burn or a Noogie?" That was great fun, and usually I would end up being the one on the losing side...

That little boy has such an intense look on his face. He's serious about knowing whether Obama's hair is like his!

6. I find the picture utterly astounding.
I have three boys and I don't think I could get them to wear a tie or tuck in a shirt, even if it meant meeting the president. I am in awe of people whose kids look so tidy.

14. I don't see him "dismissing" torture.
He isn't finished yet. Curing the evils of the previous misadministration will take some time. Patience, my friend. Obama's gonna kick some serious butt but he'll use the law and due process to do so. That will take time. I'd like to have some instant gratification also but know that isn't the way things work.

16. Well, All Anyone Can Say To That Is Read Up Here At DU Where It Was Reported
That when asked last week if prosecution of the Bush administration would proceed, Mr. "O" said no.

Things move fast here at DU and one needs to keep up.

17. That isn't the same thing as dismissing it.
Yeah, I'd like to see the whole BFEE behind bars but realistically, it ain't gonna happen. That doesn't mean the Obama Administration will do nothing.

21. footstomping impatience is a childlike trait.
as Catshrink said, due process takes time.

You wouldn't want a vengeful impulsive naif managing this, now would you?

is also childlike.
there are people dying right now because of US policy. that needs to be addressed, and those in danger shouldnt have to wait.

23. we all wish for knights in shining armour to swoop in but sadly, that's not how this world works.
And accusing anyone who realizes that of sticking their fingers in their ears & going lalalala is ad hominem.

The very fact that the world knows Obama intends to end this has a dampening effect on the perpetrators.

However, dealing fully, effectively and legally with the full scope of the problem takes time (we are talking about institutions here, not just individual criminals), regardless of how many names you call anyone.

There are many DUers who know more about the law and civics than I do---they explain things very well, if you can control the urge for instant gratification long enough to read them.

24. the previous poster called another poster childlike
for demanding action from Obama concerning war crimes.
I reminded her that childlike tendencies run all gamuts of behaviour.
shining knights? no, rule of law. not allowing people to be held in detention for an indefinite period of time with no due process. not allowing drones to continue to airbomb whole villages of civilians. calling out former administration officials on their behaviour concerning torture and demanding an independent investigation. thats not shining knights, thats just rule of law and good politics.
again, people dying in the trenches in Iraq and Afghanistan cannot afford to wait while Obama supposedly plays 'chess'.
