Waterboarding? What about all of the other methods of torture used by the government?
The media, both mass and alternative, seem to be fixated on just one method of torture while almost totally ignoring all the other horrible methods used to extract bogus confessions and information.

It's not just about waterboarding!

2. Sleep deprivation, sensory disorientations, stress positions. It's all torture and it needs to stop.

3. True
War crimes include torture as well as cruel, degrading and humiliating treatment ...and the war crimes committed by the US include more than torture - the crimes also include cruel, degrading and humiliating treatment. (hoods, taking photos of detainees, smearing them with feces, body pyramids, forced nudity, wearing of panties on the head, etc)

Forcing them to masturbate or even mock masturbate (as well as rape) is sexual assault and sexual assault is recognized as a war crime.

Using dogs against them is threat of violence and could be use of a phobia, so that's torture.

The Convention Against Torture defines torture as:

"torture means any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him or a third person information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity"

So beatings (regardless of how administered - hand, weapon, kicks), the use of phobias against people, threats of violence (to include mock execution), etc. are ALL torture.

When murder is the result, the brutality of how a person dies can and is considered part of the charge.

And yeah, it's very important people remember that far more than water-boarding was done.

5. The one incident that shocked me most...
was when they hung up the prisoners from the ceiling with their feet barely touching the ground for days at a time. In one incident, they captured a guy that had lost one of his legs in the earlier war against the Communists in Afghanistan. They took off his artificial limb and had him standing on one leg until his foot and leg became so swollen that a doctor ordered him taken down...This was cruelty in the most unusual fashion, imo...

10. And let's not forget
There's a very orderly and definite order of process and protocol that all of these little war crimes follow. It's not just the guy wrapping a prisoner's head and slamming it into the wall. It's not just the female guards jacking off their charges. Or the alligator clamps attached to some poor schmuck's scrotum. No, it's a command structure, a chain of authority all the way up and down the line, reviewing the methods, application and duration, authorizing the torture, and writing memos and reports to memorialize everything.

I'm sure some of the underlings in the mayhem of Auschwitz or Ludovico thought there was nothing they could do, but a lot of those folks have been ferreted out by time and history, as surviving victims have methodically, remorselessly hunted them down and brought them to justice, whether it tooks months, years or even decades.

11. If they can make it about a debate on whether waterboarding
the worst of the worst is torture, they feel they can get Americans to accept sadism as 24 heroics.
