Memorial Day Sales (slam on Ace Hardware)
Edited on Mon May-25-09 11:22 AM by Horse with no Name
Ace Hardware has a FABULOUS 3-day sale that started on Saturday. In particular, these great looking wooden Adirondack Chairs for $29 each.
Well, that is great EXCEPT for the fact that every single Ace Hardware Store in my area has been closed the last 3 days.
Today I started calling stores 5-6 hours outside my area and they are sold out. Said they didn't get but a few in each store.
Why oh why have a 3-day sale this big and PROMINENTLY display the chairs on the front page and then ALLOW your retailers to close for the biggest sale of the year AND why not give more than 20-30 chairs when most people buy them in quantities more than one??
I do not understand this, whatsoever, but I do know one thing.
I will NEVER shop at an ACE Hardware again. This is nothing but a bait-and-switch type sale.

1. I saw that sale. We paid twice that much.
Sounds like Ace doesn't know if it's coming or going. It makes you wonder how many retailers are just holding on. :(

2. I have no idea why they were allowed to close! When I worked for
a mid size specialty retailer, it was MANDATORY that not only all stores be OPEN but all office personnel had to work in a store on the holiday!

Why not get more chairs per store? That one's easy. Most likely they weren't making ANY $$ on them at that price or maybe even losing $$ (Loss Leaders).

3. I found that you could go online
and order most things that are on sale and have them shipped for free to the store of your choice. Try it. Ace Hardware may be owned like the True Value stores, as a franchise, not corporate owned, so they can make up their own rules.

4. They are sold out online too
:(
I don't think they started with too many considering the calls that I have made this am.

5. ACE is a co-op...
...and each member store is pretty independent.

6. We have an Ace about 1.5 miles from my house.
Yesterday, I was waiting in line for my favorite Ace guy to help me find some drainage pipe and connectors. He was talking to some geezer about those chairs on sale. They had just one left.

(By the way, I was at Ace after having stopped at Menards first. In terms of service, Menards was as bad as Walmart -- the second that a Menards guy saw that you were seeking help, he'd bolt. One jackass was talking on a wireless phone. My son asked him for help, and the guy sneered at him as he pointed to his phone and walked away.)

I got the supplies I needed at Ace in three minutes and went on my way.

I don't think you'll have to worry about Ace in your area -- if they closed every store over the first big weekend of the summer, then they'll be gone soon.

7. I strongly support my two local independently owned Ace Hardware Stores.
But I feel your pain on the store closures.

I had a similar problem on fucking Easter, but with Home Depot.

Ace did not carry the 22 foot ladder I needed.
