July 12th, 2007
This afternoon Stephane Mifsud from France did, like announced, a static attempt. He managed to do an excellent time of 10 minutes and 4 seconds. The static was done in a private pool in the south of France in Crau. He calls himself the new world champion now he has done this performance in front of a camera crew and some other people, but it’s not an AIDA world record. He didn’t invite any AIDA judges on site, that’s too bad because when you look at the performance you can clearly see him doing an AIDA surface protocol.
So he calls it the new world record, and I call it an excellent training result. There are at least two people who already have done more then 10:04 in training, so in my opinion one of these are the official world record holders in static training results. All joking aside, I think Stephane is an excellent freediver and I really love his performances and training intensity, and of course he’s just trying to sell his performance at the same way I would do if I had his skills. With the 20 hours a week he’s putting into his training he deserves the media and the sponsors. So bravo to Stephane, but next time just invite AIDA judges, they are not that expensive and they are really nice persons. Well, almost everybody Below the news item from French TV.
