This past weekend

I was on the Western slope of Colorado. The BBQ I attended (and brought ALL the steaks to) I had the opportunity to chat with multiple (now Unemployed wildcatters) ALL proclaiming disdain for President Obama...

right down the line they all were angry that the dry holes they were drilling were not allowed any more.
They were upset as all the Jobs in the state were on the front range in renewables. (wind turbine plants are springing up all over the east side of the mountains.) The Only jobs on the western slope were in tourism. (beneath them BTW) As they were all under educated and could be considered "unskilled labor". they had the attitude the Jobs should come to them. and not move to where the jobs were.
Again President Obama, and Democrats' fault.

Most of them were cashing some sort of Federal government check to survive, while bashing "Handouts" Obama will give to minority's.
I hate to say white trash but that's what they are. Ignorant, arrogant, selfish white trash!

After watching NBC News the other night I saw a story about how in a town with 16% Unemployment... had a crab processing plant that could not find any workers other than Immigrants.

Both of these instances Brings me to the conclusion that those whom consider themselves "conservative" are in reality arrogant to the point of starving themselves and their kids... rather than taking any job to put food on the Table.

As the son of a Garbage man and willing to do any job, any where for income. (if I needed to) I find this astonishing that the republican worker really expects more from, and relies upon Government than they themselves realize.

Seems to me some jobs are out there (If you really are willing to work and/or relocate)

ok end rant I just had to point this out.

but if they're not going to do anything to help themselves, let them go hungry. Next time, bring ONE steak and enjoy the hell out of it while they watch.

Those "steaks" were really sliced roasts. the Others were amazed that I brought enough meat to feed everyone for less than $30. the instructions were to bring your own meats to BBQ. no one brought any cept the Home owners that did Hamburgers. the rest of the fare was Potato and noodle salad.

there are those that want things handed to them. and blame others for where they are. they can blame everyone but themselves, but that won't change the facts that the world changes... situations change. and those who refuse or are unable to adapt and change will not survive. i know that to feed my kids i would do virtually anything. If i had to. my husband is the same way. He has done so much to get money to pay bills and feed the family when times were tough. does it now when times are tough. he'll go out and climb under a car for a few bucks and fix it if he needs to. we are lucky at the skills he has. he can fix almost anything. me, i can babysit. i can cook. you do what needs to be done.

it is funny how they don't realize they are disparaging the very thing that is keeping them from eating out of garbage cans and living in the street. we take things like unemployment for granted these days. imagine living during the depression without a job. i don't even want to.

A child of the depression I learned to fix everything. be happy with what you have. How to comparison shop. etc.

One of his favorite statements was. "With enough pride, you will starve to death." needles to say, I learned to eat the not so tasty items on my plate first.

Both big time right wingers that sit around all day watching FOX. Irony just bounces off them.

I know the feeling. At the same time, the people you describe have to realize that work is not going to come to them. They have to look for it and do whatever they can to obtain it.

assistance. when the unemployment runs out they'll have to go get a job they don't want, perhaps. thanks to the president they don't like,they'll have longer to sit around whining while they collect unemployment before it runs out.

of other people. There are many right now, during these difficult times, who have lost their jobs and are not eligible for government assistance of any kind. So I understand your sentiments. They're luckier than many.

into it and aren't eligible now. that just feeds this idea that only 'illegal immigrants' and welfare moms get help while they are left to twist in the wind. the problem they don't see is that in order to qualify for help, you ahve to virtually be living in a cardboard box. you can't have ANY money anywhere. any stocks. nothing. we have like five shares of walmart stock that we don't have the paperwork for since we had a fire several years ago. try explaining to them that trying to sell the stock would net us about $5. they don't care. I can understand it to a certain extent, but if someone loses their job and are living on unemployment... at least food stamps or SOMETHING would tide them over. they don't look at it that way. and the approach is why so many end up trapped in assistance. not that they want to be there... but that if you make any money you are just cut off and then fall fast from there.

those guys fealt that tourism jobs were beneath them.

Whilst the Husband of my friend basically started a used car dealership. buying cars at auction, fixing them up and reselling them. I pointed out he had enough 4x4's in his yard to start a "jeep tour" company... he simply rubbed his chin and said "Hummm".

Possibly I planted a seed of entrepreneurship.

If he does so, please suggest that he do so responsibly (not trashing the environment, existing off-road trails, etc.). Also, at least the guy had some money to buy cars and fix them up! Many people don't have that.

I hope for his sake that he has the brains and the courage to nourish the seed. ;-)

and think of us as elitists. They resent anybody that thinks and tries to accomplish and are satisfied with their lives of deprivation and would never, ever, even consider that they are in any way responsible for their situation.

These are the minds that the Republiks grow their ranks with.
