Its time to get real about defending marriage
Edited on Thu May-28-09 03:56 PM by Fresh_Start
eliminate no fault divorce, make it painful and expensive so expensive that the serially married evagelicals can't afford to keep their pastors in fine cars and women.

Series, if you want to protect marriage, you need to stop it from being so easily dissolved......

1. Thats really funny and shit...
`Cept it doesn't do tons for abused women who need divorce. Seems to lack compassion. To each their own. If you can't beat em, I guess you join em.

3. I have always maintained
that it should be immensely difficult, taking years, to get married.

But it should be really easy to get divorced...........

4. I'm okay with it taking years to get married
but divorce should not be easy.

10. Because easy doesn't require
self-inspection needed to understand what went wrong and one's own role in the failure.
The process should be slow and deliberate and force an evalution of why things failed.

6. I suggested this in a rant the other day. A pre-marriage test
Preferably similar to the old "Newlywed Game". You answer a series of questions about your fiance, maybe even a round of ethical questions to boot, and if you score less than a 65%, sorry, marriage license denied!!

7. Yep
that's the way it used to be--divorce was very difficult to get, and could only be had for infidelity. Besides that, divorcess were ostracized by society (the ladies, not the men, but let's change that now). Meanwhile, I WANT as many committed gays and lesbians as possible to wed to shore up and defend the concept of marriage as a committed relationship between two people in love with each other.

9. I think that might actually be a big part of the bigotry
As we know bigotry is essentially fear, so I think the anti-gay marriage advocates are literally afraid that they'll have a smaller divorce rate per capita; thus completely negating about 90% of their foolish arguments.

11. I agree with you
What if gays and lesbians have a lower divorce rate? What does that say about heterosexual couples?
