New York Times' new Sotomayor scandal: She's voted in every election since 1992, EXCEPT FOR TWO!

The New York Times has three negative stories about Sotomayor set to be published tomorrow. Go check out the front page right now at nytimes.com.

In one of them we are told that Sotomayor has voted in every election, including 2008 when Obama participated, since 1992. In two of these elections (New York State elections) she did not vote. Guess what the headline is?

Court Pick Missed State Votes

You decide for yourself if this is good journalism or a hit piece.

Maybe they should check whether she was voting illegally with Ann Coulter down in Florida.

4. Smear piece.
They are doing a swell job at it though. Guess they got tired of being ridiculed by the Right and decided to join them?

7. She didn't vote in elections that were simply no contest
Edited on Thu May-28-09 11:02 PM by Stephanie
These were not presidential election years, there was no Senate race in 2002, and Hillary was a shoo-in against the repub in 2006. This is an easy shot to take, you just go down to the Board of Elections and request the file, but reporting it with no context is both lazy and silly.

...did not cast a ballot in the 2002 election, when the Democratic ticket in New York was led by H. Carl McCall, the state comptroller and a candidate for governor. Nor did she vote in the 2006 elections, which gave Democrats control of the United States Senate, where the fate of her nomination to the nation’s highest court will be decided.

***

Judge Sotomayor did not cast ballots in 1999 and 2007, low-turnout elections that were dominated by races for seats on the State Supreme Court, which in New York is the trial-level court.

8. Anybody notice all the positive stories the Times...
Edited on Thu May-28-09 11:07 PM by TreasonousBastard
had about her this week?

(I guess not.)

And on edit...

This isn't a smear, it's just filler and it's accurate. What's the problem?

9. I will politely challenge you to find three, even 2, positive news stories about her
Edited on Thu May-28-09 11:08 PM by AlexanderProgressive
In the NYT. Remember, we're talking about news items. They published a sympathetic editorial, but that was it. News have more weight than opinion because people get the impression that news are hard facts.

10. What? No gratuitous and subtle racial insults, or use of the words "loose" or "easy" or "slut?"
Honestly, this hit piece isn't complete without some sort of sexy innuendo....after all, that's what the NYT has sunk to, it appears.

The more I think about it, "hit piece" doesn't accurately describe this thing. Piece of honking shit is probably a bit closer.

They love to go after Democrats on this matter, or the appointees of Dems, apparently.

Perhaps it's time to research those GOP voting records?
