Comedian Ron White may face charges for smoking on stage

Grammy-nominated comedian Ron White recently played a two-night, sold out stint in Bismarck, ND. Show number 2 featured a distinguished guest: a plain clothes policeman. Police were responding to a letter sent by an audience member of White’s first Bismarck show complaining about White’s smoking of a cigar onstage in the Bismarck venue – which prohibits smoking. The comedian was cited for “smoking in public places prohibited.”

Sad that they had no choice. And then, they could not leave. OMG.

Thank the lord for police intervention!

10. I suppose that when they stage "Sherlock Holmes"
they will have to arrest the lead actor for smoking a calabash pipe.

Mind you, I'm all in favor of California style smoking laws (there isn't any indoor smoking in public spaces in CA), but I know for a fact that many theaters and movie sets allow smoking that is part of the performance.

For Ron White, his act includes him smoking (usually a cigar) and a glass of fine scotch.

I have to admit, Ron Smith is funny as hell. Plus, he had a LOT to say re: "I still have civil rights, don't I?" after he got busted recently.

He's okay. Let's put it this way: I'll watch him. I don't watch the other "Blue Collar Comedy" guys at all.

16. I have only seen Mr. White's performances on TV, all of them
previously recorded, some of them years ago. I have never seen him NOT smoking a cigar - it is a trademark part of his character on stage.

I assume that anyone would know this if they actually spent the money to see him in person. This must have been a set up by the police.

I am certain this will become part of his act, the continuing saga of Tater Salad White.

I only somewhat know of him and even I would expect him to be smoking and drinking. Caveat Emptor in this case, I'd say. It's like going to a Dead show and being aghast at a whiff of pot. But I like your idea that the cops are using a "complaint" as cover, too.

19. The anti-smoking crusade probably did a lot of damage to the environmental movement
First it was "smoking is annoying".

Then it was "smoking is bad for the smoker and it's annoying"

Then it was, "smoking is bad for the smoker and other people breathing in his smoke, and it's annoying"

Then it was "smoking is bad for the smoker, and if you can smell where a cigarette has been, and it's annoying."

Then it was my personal favorite, "I'm allergic to smoking." Well , no you aren't or you would already be on the way to the hospital, but fuck you very much you whiny....sorry I got off track.

Of course, each time we took another marketing approach to killing smoking, Carrie Nation found a new set of doctors and experts to testify to the latest truth.

Fuck Carrie Nation. And fuck people who go to bars where people smoke, and then complain about the smoke.

He could have very easily applied for a permit. That's usually what happens when a show comes in with smoke, or pyro.

Instead he blows it off and gets a story in PunchlineMagazine.com.
