The Repubs have been successful at creating equilibrium in the argument.
For example, they say we can disagree about whether the prisoners were tortured or not, but we have to admit that we were kept safe for 7 years. Is it torture if someone puts a caterpillar in a box with you? Never mind that caterpillars were never used - they were only discussed.

Never mind that torture was illegal. Never mind that we had signed treaties forbidding torture. Never mind that what they did is a war crime. It was just a difference in policy. They did it to protect the American people.

It is much like saying the reason we robbed the bank was to feed the children. The Repubs would say that they robbed the bank to keep the children from dying. It is that type of equilibrium that has blurred the debate.

Actually there is no debate. Torture is wrong. It is criminal. There is no valid rationalization for such a crime. Some of these folks would have defended Hitler and his crimes as necessary to protect the homeland.

2. There is no real argument
Jesse Ventura was right. If democrats were not complicit with their silence, we would be having trials right now. If their hands were clean, we would be doing show trials as we speak.

Why do you think impeachment was off the table in 2006?

Truth is both political parties have some answering to do if the truth comes out. Therefore its in the best interest for us to move along according to our leaders.

All that is going on is they are throwing some fish like a trained seal to the left and the right is answering by throwing some fish to their seals on the right. There is no intention for there ever to be investigations or prosecutions. If there were we would have to examine how our own leaders by keeping their mouths shut, were complicit in the abuses.

Neither political party wants this because it damages both of them.
