Tiller's killers were many (great editorial just posted by KS reporter)
Edited on Sun May-31-09 02:59 PM by proud2BlibKansan
At mid-day, police were still trying to figure out who pulled the trigger of the gun that killed Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller at his church on Sunday morning.

I'm betting they'll find that person soon enough.

As for the murderer's accomplices, we know them already.

They include every one who has ever called Tiller's late term abortion clinic a murder mill.

Who ever called Tiller "Tiller the Killer."

The groups who spent decades fomenting hate toward a man who simply believed that he was serving a purpose by being one of the few doctors in the country performing late-term abortions.

Hate. Not heated opposition. Not strong disagreement.

But blind hatred.

The kind of hate that would prompt some maniac to take a gun into a church and shoot a man to death in front of friends and family.

His accomplices know they have blood on their hands, which might explain why they were quick to issue statements today expressing disapproval of Tiller's murder.

Among them, the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue.

"Operation Rescue denounces the killing of abortionist Tiller," read the headline of a new release posted on that group's website.

Those words drip with hypocrisy.

After all, it was Operation Rescue that coined the nickname "Tiller the Killer." It was Operation Rescue that was most responsible for ratcheting up the heated rhetoric toward Tiller over the past two decades.

The group issued the following statement today:

"We are shocked at this morning’s disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down. Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tiller’s family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ."

Shocked? Are any of us really shocked that it would come to this after the many years of demonizing one man?

Certainly the group's founder, Randall Terry, didn't seem shocked when he issued a statement that, I would suggest, provides a truer sense of how the anti-abortion movement saw today's events:

"George Tiller was a mass-murderer. We grieve for him that he did not have time to properly prepare his soul to face God. I am more concerned that the Obama Administration will use Tiller's killing to intimidate pro-lifers into surrendering our most effective rhetoric and actions. Abortion is still murder. And we still must call abortion by its proper name; murder.

Those men and women who slaughter the unborn are murderers according to the Law of God. We must continue to expose them in our communities and peacefully protest them at their offices and homes, and yes, even their churches."

I'd suggest that if anyone is in need of salvation right now it's the anti-abortion movement in Kansas and across the nation.

As Terry's statement makes clear, the same bullet that killed George Tiller also shattered the moral underpinnings of the movement that inspired its firing.

1. It's why I don't want anything to do with the right to life crowd
Because with too many of them there is little that is Christian or even civilized about them anymore.

3. More background info:
These pro-life assholes are all over the place here in KS. You all have heard about Phelps and his anti-gay agenda but the pro-lifers are far more violent than he is.

They super glued the locks on a women's clinic here in KC twice last week. It is a clinic in a low income area that provides health care to women who have no other options. They don't even perform abortions there. But the pro-life assholes vandalize it all the time.

The car seen at the church this morning was registered to an owner here in a KC suburb not far from where I live.

A good friend's wife is a doctor who used to do abortions here but was literally ran out of business and had to declare bankruptcy after years of being harassed by vandals and the state AG. She is in hiding today.

I will post details as they come in.

6. We had an idiot who went to Davenport
A few years back there was this idiot named David Robert McMenemy of Detroit to came to Davenport. He tried to burn down Edgerton Women’s Health Center by crashing his vehicle into the place, all because he equated the term "women's health" with abortion.

http://www.qctimes.com/news/local/article_13f05e10-3a6d-550d-bf9f-e3f278c2bf59.html

The thing was that Edgerton wasn't doing abortions, nor were they referring women to places that did so.

13. Perhaps he ran his vehicle into the building BECAUSE it said "women's health?"
I'm starting to wonder if any of the America's Taliban realizes when they are anti-abortion, they are really anti-woman and anti-doctor's rights?

2. That is very good. Thanks for posting it. It might interest some to know
that there is another element here that is only know by those of us in the religious body. Operation Rescue represents the Catholic belief that the woman should be allowed to die in childbirth if a choice must be made. Thus Dr. Tiller's therapeutic abortions were "murder". The Lutheran Church that he attended does not believe this and have not since the days of Luther. Thus he is a member of a church that the Catholics disagree with. To Operation Rescue the Lutheran church is also guilty. So what is new since Luther? Nothing.

7. I was a teenager in the early 90s in Clearwater, Kansas
Just 15 miles from Wichita. I had never seen such hatred and general nuttiness from a group of people as when Operation Rescue (then headed by Randall Terry) first came to town. I admire Tiller for standing his ground for so long.

16. Here's a couple of quotes from Randall Terry that shows how he REALLY feels about this
Edited on Sun May-31-09 03:13 PM by Sebastian Doyle

"I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you... I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good... Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism." August 16, 1993.

"When I, or people like me, are running the country, you’d better flee, because we will find you, we will try you and we will execute you." 1995.

Taliban fundagelical theocratic terrorist. Who disowned his own children, just in case you wanted another reason to despise the piece of shit. The son is gay and the daughter, ironically enough, was "pro life" and had a baby, out of wedlock. http://www.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid35861.asp

You can't win with Randy, I guess.

Have a baby? BAD
Don't have a baby? BAD
in a relationship where babies aren't biologically possible? REALLY BAD.

29. Given his vile hatred toward women and
gays, it seems only natural he would have the family that he does.

I heard he was raised by a strong mother and aunt...guess he revolted against that.

I will try to feel sorry for him....and that takes mucho effort!!!!

22. Unfortunately, this columnist doesn't get it.
"At mid-day, police were still trying to figure out who pulled the trigger of the gun that killed Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller at his church on Sunday morning."

Dr Tiller was NOT an abortion doctor, he was a doctor who performed necessary medical procedures, called abortions. To keep calling this doctor an abortion doctor, takes away from all the good this doctor has done in his many years of service to his patients.
