http://www.hoover.org/pubaffairs/dailyreport/archive/2867046.htmlTalking about political affiliations in a recent National Public Radio interview, Bob Chase, president of the NEA, stated that his members are “not majority Democratic. Our membership breaks down very similar to the general public as far as percentage being Democratic, Republican, and independent.” This is particularly relevant since at least 75 percent of public school teachers are members of the NEA or the AFT. From 1971 to 1996, teachers’ political affiliations have been relatively constant in their distribution among Democrats (about 40 percent), Republicans (about 30 percent), and “no affiliation/other” (the remaining 30 percent).
Without a doubt this fluctuates.
My only child will be finishing up his senior year 2010-2011 at a primarily conservative college. He hates it. He will finish with 3 majors. The other two children who are older and die hard republicans due to their fathers influence (I am their step father) consider me also their father. We have at times had some serious conversations and you can only imagine what burden I must carry ever so carefully. My son has encountered true difficulties by going to this college due to conflicts with the teachings of the professors and the views of his peers. He is majoring in economics, history and english. Because his brother and sister being Republicans, he has wavered a time or two. It has been truly amazing to see him gain the knowledge and come to his own conclusions. He is not a Republican nor will he ever be. I wanted to point this out to others and get your view point on this.
