is hell frozen? Coburn defends Pelosi, takes swipe at FOX
Coburn is a fierce opponent of the health care bill but told participants at a recent town hall in his home state that Pelosi is a "nice lady" who deserves to be treated with civility.

"Come on now, she is a nice - how many of you all have met her?" Coburn said to groans from the crowd. "She is a nice person. Let me give you a little lesson here, I hope youill listen to me. Just because somebody disagrees with you doesn't mean they aren't a good person."

"What we have to have is make sure we have a debate in this country so that you can see what's going on and make a determination yourself," he said. "So don't catch yourself being biased by Fox News that somebody is no good. The people in Washington are good. They just don't know what they don't know."

1. Maybe a lot of his constituents beat him up over stopping
the extention of unemployment benefits. Something obviously shocked him into a little reality!

2. Actually, Coburn is someone Obama befriended in the Senate, strange as it may seem
Obama still treated him with deference at the Health Care Summit. All very odd but life sometimes is that.

4. I think that sooner or later the true conservatives will wake up and take their party back from the
wack-jobs.

The kooks have taken over and the Elected Ones fear for their political lives.

6. Will civility finally break out?

On a given day I'll be 180 degrees at odds with Coburn, but it's high time that someone from his party put the damper on the venemous character assassinations that have been going on courtesy of Coburn's partisans and Fox News, among others. Good for the Senator, now let's stick to the issues and have a debate based on actual facts.

7. Washington is a weird place like that
Reagan and Tip O'Neill used to get together and shoot the breeze after shooting at each other during the working day.

Hell, check this out: Richard Viguerie is a friend of mine, even though he thinks I'm bat shit crazy politically, and
the sentiment is most definitely reciprocated. Politically, he is the Prince of Darkness, and yet, he's a very nice guy
who is perfectly willing to "leave his guns at the door (his words)" when the occasion warrants.

The part of Coburn's comments that I found astounding was not his defense of Pelosi, but his willingness to stand up
to Fox Noise. THAT is earth-shattering, not his defense of Pelosi as a person.
