FOX News already trying to cover for Massey in mining disaster?
Edited on Wed Apr-07-10 02:10 AM by Adenoid_Hynkel
If you go to FOX News' Web site, you're greeted by a front page headline, titled "EXCLUSIVE: Seismic Events Recorded Not Far From Mine Disaster Site"

Of course, when you click into the story, you see that the seismic activity happened in Braxton County in the northeast- not exactly near the mine and took place days before the explosion. I guess it was a really slow spark that ignited the gas.

To give you an idea what a nonevent it was, I live about halfway between the epicenter and the mine. I felt nothing. No one in my town did either.

No one in this area could take this idea seriously. The local media, who have covered mining issue for decades and know a little bit about this sort of thing aren't considering it.
And FOX didn't "discover" the minor quakes. They made headlines when they took place a few days ago.
Only FOX is dumb enough to try to link them to what happened at the mine.

So, you be the judge:
Sloppy quickie "scoop" to satisfy a 24/7 newscycle or deliberate attempt to get an unsafe mine off the hook and blame it on "an act of God" (as is the usual Massey defense for sludge spills and fatalities)?

Bear in mind that Massey is run by a staunch Republican.

2. They did that in Utah too, remember?
I guess we can expect to hear that until they come up with some other lame excuse to cover up for their lack of safety standards.

3. The deaths could have nothing to do with the safety violations that cost over $1 million in fines.

4. Republican Governor Arch Moore called the 1972 Buffalo Creek Flood "an act of God."
Literally. I heard him say it on the radio. I was there.

Moore has since done time in prison for unrelated crimes.

We are currently blessed with his daughter, Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV02), as our member of Congress for West Virginia's 2nd Congressional district.

5. Wow, what a bullshit headline.
Then in the article they go on to say the two are NOT related. But how many Faux readers would read beyond the first paragraph or two and not get that part of the story.
