Poll question: Michael Steele is an agent for Democracy
I know it sounds far fetched, but can ANYONE be so completely incompetent as to destroy a National Political Party from the inside like he is? And who does he have pictures of with goats to not be thrown under the bus by the rabid dogs of the Conservative base? I'm telling you, he will 'come out' as a Dem when this is all over and there won't be any gains by these morons this November....

Republicans felt they had to pick a black man, because:
a) Barack Obama is black, and he's popular.
b) It would "prove" they're not racist. He's their New Black Friend. (Rodney was unavailable)

Republicans also deliberately picked the LEAST COMPETENT black man they could find, because:

a) They knew he'd give them an excuse to get rid of him relatively soon
b) His failures would reaffirm their own racist ideas about black people
c) His failures would reaffirm their constituents own racist ideas about black people
d) They would be able to blame his failure on "the racism of Democrats out to destroy him."
e) After his failure, they wouldn't have to appoint another black person as head of The RNC for at least a generation.

2. The (R) version of affirmative action.
They've never believed the intent of affirmative action - to give qualified candidates who might otherwise be overlooked a chance - so they picked a name out of a hat and got a stunningly unqualified figurehead (who happens to be black).

In typical fashion, they created a scenario where "FAIL" was assured and proved that affirmative action is a bad thing - by knowingly hiring an incompetent candidate.

Circular logic and a self-fulfilling prophecy wedded to prove they've always been right about those damn librul policies. But it's not racist. :sarcasm:

3. I don't think they picked him out of a hat. I think they deliberately picked the worst candidate.

Only because Marion Barry is a Democrat, and Alan Keyes probably turned it down (or was too popular among their base).

4. Oh, as entertaining as Steele is, could you even imagine Alan Keyes?????
It'd have been a huge win for them as all the (D)s died off either laughing themselves to death or in sheer horror.

5. I think Alan Keyes would have been able to avoid financial scandal.
They wanted someone who would screw-up enough to be removed before doing too much damage at the polls.
