If mine owners chose profit over safety, isn't that our grand capitalist economy in action?

don't conservatives argue that regulations - the likes of which, if strictly enforced, might have saved those miners - are bad for business? I'm reading in the paper today that the mine "has been cited for 600 violations in less than a year and a half, some of them for not properly ventilating methane - the highly combustible gas suspected in the blast."

What liberal nonsense! Why doesn't the liberal media explain that it might have cost Massey Energy a significant amount of money during a recession to fix those violations, and that might have impacted profits, or forced it to lay off workers!

Safety = regulation, right? Conservatives rail against the regulatory state, seemingly without ever considering why those regulations exist, and what might happen if they didn't.

I frankly don't see where conservatives should have any problem with Massey Energy. They ought to be celebrating it as a great American success story.
