Fox News -- on cue -- attacks the Wikileaks video as "heavily edited and misleading"
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/04/07/military-raises-questions-credibility-leaked-iraq-shooting-video/

The problem, according to many who have viewed the video, is that WikiLeaks appears to have done selective editing that tells only half the story. For instance, the Web site takes special care to slow down the video and identify the two photographers and the cameras they are carrying.

However, the Web site does not slow down the video to show that at least one man in that group was carrying a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, a clearly visible weapon that runs nearly two-thirds the length of his body.

WikiLeaks also does not point out that at least one man was carrying an AK-47 assault rifle. He is seen swinging the weapon below his waist while standing next to the man holding the RPG.

"It gives you a limited perspective," said Capt. Jack Hanzlik, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command. "The video only tells you a portion of the activity that was happening that day. Just from watching that video, people cannot understand the complex battles that occurred. You are seeing only a very narrow picture of the events."

1. To be fair ...
with them pushing James O'Keefe, they should know a thing or two about "heavily edited and misleading" videos.

8. Ok the defenders need to get their talking points in order
According to many defenders the people in the chopper did nothing wrong. If they didn't do anything wrong then why is Faux claiming the video was edited to make it look like they did something wrong? So is Fox admitting that the video looks bad and is just edited or was this a righteous shoot? Which is it? You can't have it both ways.

10. "the Web site does not slow down the video..." I don't recall them slowing down any portion

of the video. Perhaps they did, but I don't remember it. I remember arrows popping up realtime indicating the journalists.

No, wait, I think I remember them going back and showing some shots slowed down. OK.

Regardless, the video is not heavily edited by any reasonable standard. Yes, Wikileaks had a specific point of view when putting the smaller video together. But Fox News condemning them on that basis is pretty lame.

ETA: And how about grabbing that quote from the Army spokesperson and twisting it a bit? I do think the raw video itself only shows a limited picture of the battlefield, but that's not the doing of Wikileaks. I agree with the point the spokesperson made, but not how Fox used it.

12. It sounds like they are talking about the short version
Since the long version doesn't have ID information. Is Fox just ignoring the existence of the 39-minute video altogether?

(from Fox)

Where are they? Make a still frame and blow it up so we can all see it and it'll be proof positive.

I don't see any weapons in these videos (and my hobby is collecting military guns so I have some knowledge of what an AK looks like).

16. Perhaps this is why the military "lost" its copy.
Plausible deniability for one.
Projecting haze from the RW scream machine for the other.
