Animal control officer accused of killing puppy

A Galena Park animal control officer has been charged with animal cruelty after being accused of shooting a puppy and dumping the body, rather than taking it to the pound.

Juan Enrique Hernandez, 40, is free on $2,000 bond after being arraigned this morning in the Feb. 16 incident. He was arrested last week after being indicted on March 31.

State District Judge Mike Anderson ruled today that Hernandez have no contact with animals.

A Galena Park city worker who has held the job for two years, Hernandez will be placed on administrative duty, his attorneys said.

1. I don't know how people can be so cruel to animals...

I cannot tolerate seeing an animal hurt or suffering or killed any more than I can stand seeing a human being under the same conditions.

Just yesterday I saw a dog get hit by a car on the freeway... I had to pull over and scream for five minutes, and sob for another five.

Bless the beasts and the children...
