TOONS: Karzai (Why are we still there?)

we chased into Pakistan from fleeing back into Afghanistan. It's the squeeze between the US and the Pakistan army that both countries hope will destroy them.

The only thing it will do, of course, is buy time. The next generation will be back to avenge their fathers. That's the way it always goes, one war sowing the seeds for the next.

In any case, the Taliban won't be welcomed back to power in Afghanistan the way they were after the Russians left. People know how corrupt and ruthless they are this time and their pious mouthing of the Quran is not going to impress anyone that things will be different.

I don't think we'll be there too much longer. We can't afford it and public support is finally starting to fade as atrocities pile up.
