Legislation promoting Va virtual schools signed, VA
LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Gov. Bob McDonnell has signed legislation that promotes the growth of virtual schools.
The legislation was part of the Republican governor's education agenda. It sets guidelines for virtual school programs in which students can learn online outside a traditional classroom.
The law would require the state to develop policies for approving and monitoring corporate and nonprofit online-education providers operating in more than one school division. The Department of Education also would be required to post information on its Web site about online learning opportunities.
