did you know that FDR...
won 85% of the under 30 vote the first two times he ran for office? I thought that the 66% of the under 30 vote for Obama was a lot but the overwhelming of support by young people for Roosevelt was impressive. Everyone under 30 in '32 and '36 was part of the GI Generation. A lot of people (including myself) thought that the GI Generation was a generation of Archie Bunker types but as I find out, that isn't the case.

1. Hoover was universally reviled. I know several New Dealers in their '80s. Not Bunker types at all.
Especially women.

2. Another FYI: in '32 the majority of black voters voted for Hoover. In '36 for FDR. nt

3. In 1932 or even in 1936, not a whole lot of the "greatest generation" was old enough to vote
(remember voting age was 21 back then). In 1932 my dad & mom were only 12 & 8 and I really can't think of any friends whose parents would have been old enough to vote by 1936 even among those whose dads served in WWII.

4. But they were young then -- maybe it's before Archie went into his bunker.
