New Evidence Implicates Henry Kissinger In Assassination Case
WASHINGTON — As secretary of state, Henry Kissinger canceled a U.S. warning against carrying out international political assassinations that was to have gone to Chile and two neighboring nations just days before a former ambassador was killed by Chilean agents on Washington's Embassy Row in 1976, a newly released State Department cable shows.

Whether Kissinger played a role in blocking the delivery of the warning against assassination to the governments of Chile, Argentina and Uruguay has long been a topic of controversy.

Discovered in recent weeks by the National Security Archive, a non-profit research organization, the Sept. 16, 1976 cable is among tens of thousands of declassified State Department documents recently made available to the public.

In 1976, the South American nations of Chile, Argentina and Uruguay were engaged in a program of repression code-named Operation Condor that targeted those governments' political opponents throughout Latin America, Europe and even the United States. <snip>

2. If he is he hasn't admitted it
I, personally, think he and Cheney both are examples of a technological prototype of "Weekend at Bernie's"

6. "The system works on auto pilot" -- Allan Nairn on the nomination of Dennis Blair.
Edited on Sun Apr-11-10 11:57 AM by EFerrari
Nairn made this comment back when Obama's cabinet nominees were being announced. His point was that Obama had to make a choice between going with the ways things have always been done and sending a clear message to his administration that the killing of civilians was off the table.

If you recall, Allan Nairn and Amy Goodman were nearly executed by Indonesian forces during one US funded and armed massacre in East Timor in 1991 at the Santa Cruz Cemetery. Goodman was badly beaten, Nairn had his skull fractured trying to get between Goodman and the rifle butts.

That was under the first Bush Administration. The Clinton Administration continued to fund Indonesia's war on the East Timorese and in particular, Dennis Blair actively and personally supported General Wiranto while he was engaged in the massacre of the East Timorese in the 90s.

One third of the population of East Timor was slaughtered by Indonesian forces who at the time received support from America, Australia and other actors.

Dennis Blair became Director of National Intelligence in January 2009.

The system works on auto pilot.

Lol.

Declassified Document: Kissinger Blocked U.S. Protest on South American Assassinations

The participation of U.S. military and intelligence agencies in facilitating Condor have been slow to surface, but there are some. In October 1978, a State Department cable from U.S. Ambassador to Paraguay Robert White, to Secretary of State Cyrus Vance, noted that the intelligence chiefs in Condor kept in touch with each other through encrypted messages sent through keep in touch with one another through "a U.S. communications installation in the Panama Canal Zone which covers all of Latin America." White told Vance that since "there is likelihood Condor will surface during Letelier trial in the U.S…. it would seem advisable to review this arrangement to insure that its continuation is in U.S. interest."

*****

The history of the United States is not one generally known to its average citizen. It involves the support and engagement in the use of torture, assassination, and covert interventions into the sovereign affairs of scores of other nations over the course of many decades, from Operation Gladio to Operation Condor. This policy has culminated in 2001-2003 with the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Today, over a quarter million U.S. troops are in that region, and the United States has documented use of torture and assassination as a matter of state policy.
