King, Bachmann co-opt abortion rights message to attack health reform

<snip>

Some of King’s toughest language came as the congressman suggested Obama will make the next U.S. Supreme Court appointment based on identity politics or an empathy gauge. King read through a list of candidates mentioned frequency in the media as potential replacements for outgoing U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens — who turns 90 in about a week.

When King referenced Merrick Garland, the U.S. Court of Appeals judge, the congressman made the following observation.

“He is the actually the one on the list who is a white guy,” King said.

In her speech, Bachmann said rural Iowans should be the vetters of presidential candidates in the first-in-the-nation caucuses.

“This is our country,” Bachmann said. “We own this country.”

...

King said that during some recent sleepless nights (he blamed insomnia) he logged on to the Internet and read through socialist and progressive Web sites. Upon doing so, King drew new conclusions about President Obama.

“The question isn’t whether the president is a socialist,” King said. “It becomes what’s to the left of socialists.”

2. I live in Iowa
I live in District 3 which is Boswell's district. District 5, which is King's district, is nothing like the rest of the state. It's basically part of Nebraska. In District 3 King would be lucky to get 45% of the vote.

5. I've not lived in Iowa since i was 7 - but both sides of my family are
Iowans, and King is NOTHING like the Iowans I know - private, middle-of-the-road, somewhat conservative (in its truest meaning) and above all level-headed. Going off half-cocked and weird paranoid political theories is so...un-Iowan.

6. I would guess King thinks New York Times, Wikipedia, and
Dictionary.com are all socialist websites, among others.

I mean, you don't see an American flag in their mastheads, do you?

I live in King's district (5), and will do whatever I can to get this clown defeated. He is so extreme in his lunacy that I just really don't understand how he ever got elected.

3. I live in eastern Iowa. Braley's district.
King would be lucky to get a teabaggger's 28% in the 1st district. This clown is an absolute embarassment to the state of Iowa. Hopefully after Nov. he'll induce no more cringes on he part of Iowans.

7. They will NOT let go of this "Obama is a Socialist" meme, will they?
Ever since they sunk their teeth into it during the 2008 election, they have not let it go- despite the fact that he is FAR from it. He's no corporatist and he seems to definitely support more progressive thinking on the economy and government but I can't imagine that King actually drew that many parallels between Obama's management while in office and what was being advocated by the socialist and progressive web sites he read through while suffering from insomnia (and probably delusions). At any rate, most wingnuts conveniently forgot that we already do have "Socialism" in this country albeit not to the extent that most countries in Europe (and most of the rest of the industrialized world) have it- and for everybody else it's working just fine. They all AFAIK have yet to fall into a repressive left-wing totalitarian states where their conservative citizens are oppressed.
