Don't let the Vatican reframe the issue
We see tons of commentary coming out of the Catholic Church in their attempt to shift the conversation lately, but it's important not to let their petty gossip get in the way of the truly heinous crimes we're faced with.

They want to argue that they're under attack on philosophical or moral grounds. They want to argue that statistically their Priests are no more pedophiles than some other group. They want to claim it's a "homosexual" issue, not a celibacy issue. And so on.

But none of that has any relevance to what their true crimes consisted of. Of course raping a child is horrid and unconscionable. BUT if they Church had addressed it quickly, allowed for the compensation and support of the victims along with the swift punishment of their Priests in accordance with all local laws, there it would have stopped.

But no. Their true crime runs far deeper, is far more sinister than that. They didn't just do nothing, they SHIELDED their criminals. Threatened the victims and others with punishments such as excommunication. Ordered their Bishops to stymy investigations at all costs and obstructed justice any way they could. And perhaps worst of all, they allowed the pedophiles to CONTINUE working around and interacting with CHILDREN through all of it.

Don't lose sight of those deeds they collectively and willfully committed, no matter what smokescreens they try to throw up to confuse and defuse their genuinely heinous crimes against humanity.
