Former VP candidate asks for top-notch accomodations, first-class airfare

By ROBIN HINDERY
Associated Press Writer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sarah Palin will get first-class airfare for two and three rooms at a luxury hotel when she gives a speech in June for a university foundation.

And organizers better not forget to stock her lectern with two water bottles and bendable straws,

The details of Palin's contract with the California State University, Stanislaus Foundation were contained in five pages of the document retrieved from a campus trash bin by students who heard administrators might be shredding documents related to the speech.

Snip
(edited to add:)
The students said they acted on a tip that documents were being shredded last Friday, when campus staff members were supposed to be on furlough.

The foundation previously denied a request to release details of the contract made by The Associated Press under the California Public Records Act.

2. Not worth getting worked up about - if that's all she asked for, she's pretty mild.
That stuff is pretty standard, especially for a big money speaker.

Condemn for being an evil posturing ignorant charlatan, but not for asking in her speaking contracts for stuff no different than anyone else would.

3. Except that she demands "pre-screened" questions. My hero.

5. The headline omits the real story.
The CSU Stanislaus Foundation had previously denied that they had any documents pertaining to her appearance despite a public records disclosure request made by the Associated Press. The students who found the discarded contract were working based on a tip that the university was shredding the documents during a university furlough.
And you're right, if J-Lo gets all that stuff in her contracts, why shouldn't Sarah? She is a diva, after all.

10. Yes - that seems to happen so much in journalism. Downplay or miss the real story

in order to triumph the banal and inconsequential with sensationalism.

I was surprised that the article finally, in the last paragraphs, made mention that the whole reason for hunting in the trash wasn't to discredit Palin but to prove the school to be lying. Why wasn't that story pushed more?

Because we have very few actual journalists left.

6. I'm surprised she doesn't ask for those curly straws.
You know, the ones that four-year-olds like.

7. Take out the word contract from the headline and I'd be laughing myself sick
Calif. students find Palin in trash

It would also be fairly accurate
