2. Hard line republicans.....
even if they claim to be something totally different nearly 99% of what they advocate, believe, and push for falls in line with what republicans advocate, believe and push for.

4. From DK
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/3/24/850224/-Q-Poll-On-Teabaggers:-Disaffected-Republicans-Could-Hurt-GOP-House-Races

<77 percent voted for Sen. John McCain in 2008> In my opinion, that's 77% hardcore rethugs.

<16 percent are Democrats or independent voters leaning Democratic> 16% Moderate rethugs.

So, in answer to your question - 93% are rethugs, an the remaining 17% are along for the media coverage.

9. Thanks. That's what I was thinking
but a group surveyed in Iowa had (allegedly) more Independents than rethugs, with Dems hardly represented.

20. I'm sure a lot of them will call themselves independents
However, their vaules (or lack of) and issues all align with the far right. In many cases I think we're talking about people who are so far right they don't really qualify as Republicans anymore.

16. Pretty sad that a "Democratic" voter would hold company with red-baiters and racists.
Then again, there are more than a handful of people on D.U. who think "free trade" has been great for the American economy, so I guess it just speaks for the "bigness" of the "tent".

And they don't want to admit it. They can identify themselves any way they like but anyone with a brain knows who they are.

Their leader and financier is lifelong Republican Dick Armey. What more do you need to know?

17. Agreed.
I was hoping for statistics because letters to our local paper are suggesting teabaggers are mainly independents and dems. But as noted above, lots of rethugs identify as independent these days.

18. I think they are trying to dilute their image.

They are desperately trying to appear more mainstream as opposed to what they actually
are, RW (rethuglican) extremists. It's just smoke and mirrors and it won't work.
