Huckabee slams student interviewer, who releases raw interview tape, which matches printed interview

Audio: In which a shot messenger hauls out the whole Huckabee

Yesterday, after his unbelievable comments about homosexuality and puppies (among many other things) exploded on the web, Mike Huckabee issued the following statement, snarkily condemning the College of New Jersey journalist who printed his thoughts:

Governor Mike Huckabee: "The young college student hopefully will find a career other than journalism. I would ask that he release the unedited tape of our conversation. I believe that what people do as individuals in their private lives is their business, but I do not believe we should change the traditional definition of marriage. Not only didn't he attempt to sensationalize my well known and hardly unusual views of same-sex marriage, he also inaccurately reported my views on Michael Steele as GOP chairman - I offered my support and didn't "Rip into Steele" as his article asserted. I had a candid and frank conversation with the group about health care, education, the economy and national security while the young journalism student, instead, chose to focus on the issue of same-sex marriage and grossly distort my views."

Only problem for the former Arkansas governor, current FOX news host, onetime shedder-of-extra-poundage, and likely GOP presidential hopeful? Well, that the young reporter did indeed do his legwork: (See link above for this audio clip)

And there's your tape, Gov. Huckabee. Same comments that were in the print piece, same offense taken.

How about if you want to be president of the entire nation, you stop shooting down both journalistic messengers and the basic civil rights of citizens who fall outside of your personal moral purview, and instead develop the fortitude to embrace both your own spoken words and the full spectrum of society? And if you can't respect a constitution with both a equal protection and a free press, perhaps you should stop suggesting alternative career paths for others, and start considering whether your own views make you fit to serve as a top executive of this fair and free nation.

See, he said something different. But Beelzebub used his black magic to make his words sound different on that recording machine, after all we know that technology is nothing but the devil's work. This is just a simple test of faith on what is God's long running ultimate n-dimensional chess game.

4. But...but.....but that student was violating the religious freedom of
Mr. Huckabee.....everyone knows that his religious beliefs embrace the right to lie with impunity as a core deeply-held facet of his devotion to "God." Why, any display of factual evidence which might verify that Mr. Huckabee could have engaged in lying about the words coming out of his very own mouth is an attempt to attack the sanctity of his religious beliefs.

6. NOTHING a public figure says to a journalist is ever off the record.
Nor should the public figure expect anything to be kept off the record, except by mutual agreement in advance.

When you sit down in front of that microphone or camera, it's showtime. And you'd better be prepared.

I didn't say what you said I said, and even if I did, you shouldn't have quoted me, and if you were going to quote me you should have asked me different questions (because I really fucked up the whole gay marriage and Michael Steele thing).

Kudos to the kid who interviewed him--outstanding job. Tough questions, aggressive followups, never let him give pat answers or speak in code. Fluffy et al could learn a lot here.

16. Thanks. I heard the audio, then read your link.
It's almost 100% dead-on accurate; this kid's a great reporter. The only minor quibble is the editor's decision to put the words 'Huckabee Rips Steele' into the headline, which Huckabee seized on to try to discredit the reporter. But the article clearly articulates how Huckabee held back from calling for Steele's resignation while attacking Steele's lack of a good explanation. So how were your views "grossly distorted" again, Fuckabee?

It should be stated repeatedly that Huckabee's views on homosexuality are an abomination. In addition to what is beyond dispute that he said in this most recent interview comparing homosexuality to bestiality, he still has yet to repudiate his 1992 support of a quarantine for AIDS patients:

In response to a 1992 questionnaire from The Associated Press, Huckabee, then a Senate candidate in Arkansas, spelled out his opposition to homosexuality, saying it was crucial that the country not "legitimize immorality."

"I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural, and sinful lifestyle," he wrote, in response to a question about gays in the military.

He also advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, saying it was necessary to confine "carriers of this plague."(emphasis added)

As governor, Huckabee supported an Arkansas policy that prevented same-sex couples from serving as foster parents. On gay marriage, he said in an interview, "Marriage has historically never meant anything other than a man and a woman. It has never meant two men, two women, a man and his pet, or a man and a whole herd of pets."

And still were in Mississippi too, until March, last month.

This interesting fact from 2010 may be a little off topic, but I was reminded of it when you posted that snip from Huckabee back in 1992. So you could almost say his wish was almost granted, at least in part, and in certain places.

As much as I support your economic policies, I do find the slippery slope argument offensive. I'm a true conservative but my son is gay, much to my discontent, and I find these kinds of comments offensive.

If you look at what's happened in Mass., in Iowa and elsewhere you'll see that these equations (to bestiality, polygamy and other things) are ill founded and untrue, and demean people who otherwise could be brought to your side.

Whatever the context, I'm very disappointed if your remarks are close to this. And frankly what you've said will happen isn't happening the places gay marriage is legal.

To Louis Buren: as a Christian I find your assertion of "perversity" to be off the mark and also unsupported by scripture.

I think it's a shame that you would call this a gross distortion. What you say on the tape is pretty clear and the student paper took nothing out of context.

Remember what you said in the interview about the importance of honesty. Perhaps you should use that as a guide post for how you conduct yourself.

You're being both intellectually and morally dishonest here and you do nothing but bring shame on yourself by doing such.

Absolutely not -- nothing has been distorted. I have heard the audio recordings and they are, in fact, accurate. Mr. Huckabee, you won't get my vote.

-A level-headed, objective Republican.

Assigned to the garbage heap of television history known as Fox News, where "news" is not news, but opinions expressed as news.

23. Huckabee goes to war with his own mouth...
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 02:15 PM by Javaman
Washington (MUN)- In a written statement issues by one time presidential wanna-be, Mike Huckabee, he claims that his mouth no longer does his speaking all and needed spoken statements will now be done through a mouth interpreter.

His statement reads in part, "I can no longer trust what my mouth says. It has from time to time, made false statements about me. I'm not going to say it lies, but I think its record speaks for itself".

When called for a comment, the Huckabee mouth stated, "Mike and I go back a long way, his statement is completely false and I think he needs to take it up with his brain, not me, I'm just the messenger".

When we tried reaching the Huckabee brain for comment, we received a recorded statement saying it was out to lunch.

And as much as this ignorant bigot's words about gay people piss me off, this personal mendacious slander against an individual is the act of an absolutely amoral and selfish man. This is a young professional, being lied about by a powerful political figure, by name. Huck is calling the man a liar, personally. It is just astonishing to me that anyone would do that to another person.
He lies about his neighbors, that is his stock in trade. He profits by slander and he's always been best known for his weight issues and his hate issues.
