1. The best thing about the First Couple, IMHO.......
is the love and joy and laughter they have with children. I've never seen a child look at either of them and start to howl! Since the kids generally have a well-developed weasel alert, it seems to me that this is a very good sign.

2. She is a class act.
It is almost like a dream to have something so good about the Presidency, after the years of depression prior to 2008.
It is like night and day.

3. I love having her as our FLOTUS
She makes us look good. She makes us look classy. And as far as I can see she is totally genuine.

5. very adept at striking just the right tone.
She doesn't condescend, but also doesn't do the false modesty thing. She knows who she is and what her job is. She said on NBC tonight, "I'm the First Lady of the United States of America!" without acting self-righteous or egotistical--just sounding like a regular middle-class person who got incredibly lucky.

6. Absolutely correct about 'right tone.'
See her at WH meeting with 'kids,' re: obesity? GREAT discussions, responses to questions, and then hugs at end? PRICELESS!

9. She's certainly an asset to the U.S.'s image.

Her attractiveness helps, but it shouldn't.

The British press love her, she's good tabloid material. Thinking man's Carla Bruni

I personally like her because I read some paper she wrote for college that was pleasingly left wing and passionate and truthful. About the experience of black women in the higher education system and how that tied in to class, discrimination, etc. I like that this woman shares a bed each night with the most powerful man in the world, and that he apparently respects her opinions and is likely influenced by what she whispers in his ear.

Also their relationship generally seems very healthy - a model of authentic family values. Of course for all I know they are dysfunctional behind the scenes and Obama is banging more actresses than JFK, but it's very, very hard to imagine. They SEEM to be more or less exactly what a family should be like, in terms of their own relationship. I.e an equal, faithful, loving, impressively boring relationship.

They just come across as a very decent, harmonic, modern family. These are common in everyday life but quite hard to find in politics. Wholesome, you know?
