Maybe I'm in the minority... but I don't give a shit about what Sarah Palin is up to

This may be the only thread I've ever posted in that has the words "Sarah Palin" in the OP.

I really don't get the obsession with all the Palin posts on DU.

Why do you people care what a non-office-holding Republican personality is up to?

She's never going to be the GOP nominee for President... the Republicans are stupid, but they aren't that stupid.

She's angling to become a female Glenn Beck.

The amount of money that teabaggers pay to see her speak is meaningless. The fact that she has a show on Fox or Discovery generates a big "so what?" from me.

She gets her power from people like us focusing on her... making her newsworthy.

She's to politics what Paris Hilton is to the entertainment industry. She's not worth the bandwidth.

(Yes... I know, by posting this, I've violated my own rule about discussing her.... but this is more about DU's obsession with her than about Sarah Palin herself).

36. that makes lots of us
too much of DU is just like the media, giving her power by making her far more important than she is.
Its the American Idol syndrome really. The soap operaness of it all has people as obsessed here about the Palin, but they are just too 'smart' to get hooked into other meaningless things, but will rant on about every fucking Palin detail there is out there. And one thread for every word she has spoken it seems.

sometimes it seems she has more fans around here than at the local junior GOP club.

3. She gets the attention because so many people are focusing on
her. DU is a small place in the scheme of things, but she bears watching imo, if only to know what's going on regarding those who think she's the second coming. I think they're all potentially dangerous- she's the catalyst.

Having said that, I wish she'd just go away, too, but she's making too much money.

4. I hear you, I don't think that she would be near as "famous" as she is
If the left would stop obsessing over her I think she would fade away.

7. Why?
She's making all her money off benighted, deluded wingnuts. Why would our ignoring her affect that? $arah's not listening to us anyway.

12. Because the more the left demonizes her,
The more the wingnuts love her, and the more the media focuses on her because of the opposing, clashing views.

15. You may be right.
Although I'm not sure the left exactly "demonizes" her - more like "scorns" or "looks on with deep disdain". We don't claim that she's a Nazi or a terrorist or was born in Russia or anything like that. We mostly just say she's dumb, and her worshippers are dumber.

The media definitely loves a dogfight. If everyone who disapproves ignores her, there's no fight. But, I don't think that's going to happen.

5. I like watching the unraveling and back peddling
"Lets take what she said in context"

"What she really meant to say.."

"I think the intention was..."

Fox news is great at just making up shit after she repeats and repeats more.

6. Shooting Fish In A Barrel
I think many of us here thought Caribou Barbie would vanish back into the North 40 after getting her political ticket to the Bridge to Nowhere punch in November '08...and if anything, she helped assure an Obama victory. But the corporate media thinks otherwise. They see a freak show and are drawn to it like moths to a flame. A parasitic relationship has developed between Mooselini and the "lamestream media"...both feeding off each other. The more they poke at her, the more she makes a fool of herself that "compells" the cables to obssess and on and on we go. The fact that Bible Spice couldn't win a straw poll at the two major rushpublican hatefests this year says not only is she irrelevant to us, but to her own corrupt party as well. She's a total media creation...a walking reality show. A "political celebrity"...nothing more.

Truth is a bashing this grifter is fun...one of the few areas on DU where we all can pile on and laugh. La Palinista is an opportunist who is milking her 15 minutes for all its worth...

8. I agree.
At her very best effort, she will have the ability to knock the nomination away from a moderate Repub candidate (such as Romney). She will never get the nomination herself.

9. From the day McCain chose her, DU has been obsessed with her.
The day after Obama gave a great acceptance speech you could read thread after thread after thread her about Palin, most parroting the exact same things, and not even close as much about the speech.

Sad. There is nothing too small that she can do that some DUer will not start a thread about it.

Oh, don't expect many Recs for this thread because people do not like to have their obsessions challenged.

31. That's the dilemma: how does one raise the subject of Palin obsession without adding to it?
Or do they just keep quiet even knowing there are many others who feel the same way?

I don't think there is anything wrong with substantive conversation about Palin, but most of what I read here about Palin is pretty much obsessive fluff bitching about her, saying the same things over and over.

For Palin, attention is attention and she doesn't care what it is as long as you spell her name right. Trash her and all that is being done is preaching to the choir because her true believers are, well, true believers.

11. Next to each thread is a little box with an "X:" in it...
If you don't want to see a Sarah Palin thread, click on the X, and POOF!!! It's gone!

That being said, I am far more sick of having her shoved down my throat by the M$M. I have no problem with them reporting on something like the latest story about her contract to speak at that California college. If that helps expose her for what she is, and eventually makes her go away, great! But, do they really need to play endless clips of that nasty, screechy yammering she does every time she has a microphone in her face? It's nauseating. Even my cats run and hide when she comes on the TV.

"The Paris Hilton of Politics" is a good analogy. Just remember that we hardly hear from Paris these days. Hopefully, that will hold true for Palin, too. May it be very soon. But, as long as she's in the MSM, people here are going to discuss her. It's like coming upon a car wreck. You can't help but look...

14. palin a big flop in boston
I agree her popularity is a media blitz; shes last years loser;her squeaky voice an gaudy attire get old in a heartbeat!
sarha who? poor turn out
Wednesday, April 14, 2010, 12:48 PM EST

Well if you listen to the media it was a large turnout? do the math -the city has 590,000 thousand residents; the day time this can swell to a million easy! their are 6.5 million people from the state;their is 14.5 million people in new England! the first news reports said their was close to 3,000 turn out to see MS squeaky voice! give her the benefit of the doubt swell it by 3+ call it 10,000 no tell it like the repukes exaggerate call it 20,000- you still got a pitiful turnout! less than one half of a percent! Of those who attended at least 20% opposed the hatred these people display! Oh by the way can someone suggest to that squeaking money grubber that she looks disgusting in that cheap red jacket!(who wants a former vice president candidate looking like a street walker)

all I can say is Scot Brown is smarter than I an many others gave him credit for!

if this is their best we are a shoo in nov 2012!!!!!

And too smart to be draw in by the "American Idol" culture; apparently not.

13. For some reason, Americans fixate on loud mouthed know-nothings.
I think that it has something to do with the Corporate Media telling us what's important and too many Rw'ers and Baggers getting way more exposure than their numbers would warrant.

At this time, no moron gets more airtime than the Alaskan Banshee otherwise known as Sarah (I Quit!!!) Palin.

Notice the resemblance?

17. The only difference is that a dog can make a valuable contribution.
As an animal lover I hate to compare Barbie to something as noble as a dog.

That is an uncanny likeness though. Now if only we could fit Barbie with a choke collar or a shock collar for whenever she makes a public appearance.

18. I pay attention to her because I believe she's a sign of things to come.
I believe that, on the whole, Americans are not only growing dumber as the months go by, they are valuing their stupid ignorance more and more. The majority are becoming just so many sheep and they are being led to the slaughter (Think "1984"). We smart ones, who value our intellengence and freedom to question and to speak out, need to keep an eye on the wolves. Even wolves as blantantly stupid as Palin and Bachmann.

22. There is a difference between caring about something and taking note of it.
Do I care if a guy paints his house bright pink? No not in the least, but I bet I would comment on it if I drove by. If someone actually has a personal stake in what Sarah Palin does, they probably need a hobby. However, as long as she is the face of the opposition party it is probably a good idea to keep an eye on her and just how lame she is in every way. I'm fine with that, just don't think for a minute that I care.

Post 12 got it right. I've posted about this since fall of 2008. Why the obsession on DU with a woman that we call "ugly," "useless,", "a bitch,", a "bimbo." i.e. if she was that bad of a vice presidential candidate selection (which she was), then why were we so worried about her that she entailed half the posts on DU during the fall (and 3/4 since)?
