A huge plume of drifting ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland has disrupted air traffic across much of northern and western Europe, stranding tens of thousands of air passengers.

The entire airspace in the UK, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden is closed, there are partial closures in France, and Finland has closed all airports except Helsinki-Vantaa. Flights to and from Australia have been cancelled, and thousands of other Europe-bound passengers from Asia and the United States have been left stranded.

=====

“It (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) includes $300 million to buy new cars for the government, $8 billion for high-speed rail projects, such as a “magnetic levitation” line from Las Vegas to Disneyland, and $140 million for something called “volcano monitoring.” Instead of monitoring volcanoes, what Congress should be monitoring is the eruption of spending in Washington, D.C.”

– Bobby Jindal in the Republican response to President Obama’s Address to Congress, February 24, 2009

9. It's amazing
Jindal is a jackass.

This may well have implications for the funeral of the Polish President this weekend.
Rachel has a nice report.
The irony of an Icelandic volcano disrupting airports in Europe after the financial mess should not be missed.

12. has the media asked this asshole about this ?
i really wish they would bring up past comments when things like this happen. it's so easy to complain about big govt programs.

but it's because of these govt programs, standards , funding etc that an earthquake in LA wont cause as much damage as it did in Haiti.

if we had some more standards for coal mining industry .......
