Republicans throw Charlie Crist overboard.
Now, the Governor of Florida has a big decision to make.

The Republicans in the Florida legislature passed a bill to stick it to the teachers and students of Florida and Governor Crist vetoed it. He vetoed the f**ker! That took some balls.

Then, his campaign manager, Connie Mack, resigned. It did not help that former Governor Jeb Bush had also supported the bill. In effect, Governor Crist signed the divorce papers.

Now Governor Crist has to make a decision. He has little chance of winning the Senate seat after this veto. Does he switch Parties? Or does he pull a Lieberman and run as an Independent? The odds are that he will do the latter.

The Florida race is the clearest sign thus far of the deep divisions within the Republican Party. If they don't get the "tea-baggers" back into the flock, they are screwed.

2. Crist has until April 30 to file.
I posted in another thread that Republicans supporting Crist, and his veto, were counter-protesting at a Tea Bagger rally yesterday.

Never thought I'd enjoy witnessing cannabalism...

p.s. Tea Baggers are dwindling here in number judging by the "turnout" yesterday.

4. I vote for "Screwed". I saw this coming in the GOP since the presidential election -
they are so split they will fight against themselves, and the smartest and best GOP pols will either be forced out or will leave vountarily. The 'baggers will field lots of new marginal candidates and money for the "real" GOP will be sucked into their sewer.

I am hoping the Dems are smart enough to take advantage of this...
And I am hoping that Dems are smart enough to vote in November.

5. The whole point of that bill was to hurt the base of the Democrats.
Now Charlie has made a play for the same base, to get elected as an independent.

6. I think so to... His numbers had tanked for the primary anyway...
He was already having to consider an "Independent" run because he couldn't get past the neo-cons and if you aren't a registered republican, you can't vote for Crist in a primary anyway. AND the Dems weren't running anyone. It took Meek on his own to get the signatures to get on a ballot.. with no help from the Dem party at all. I think it was a deal.. let Sink have the Gov chair and Crist go to the Senate... Going as an Independent would help Crist actually work with Dems without being criticized to heavily since the Pukes are just the party of NO.. Of course this veto is a popular thing and voters will remember when it came down to it, he did the right thing for the teachers and students, rather than the "Republican" thing (which was just another Bushie take over-- he's worse now out of the Gov office thanwhen he was in it.)
