Bachmann: tea parties are like a state fair / family reunion
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) on Thursday claimed that despite their angry Tax Day protests, tea party activists are “happiest people you would ever want to meet.”

Like many of the president’s detractors who spoke out at multiple rallies on the National Mall on Thursday, Bachmann has used harsh rhetoric to criticize Barack Obama and his Democratic allies in Congress.

But during an interview Thursday night on the Fox Business Network, Bachmann said that “if you go to one of the tea party rallies, they're actually the happiest people you would ever want to meet. It's almost like going to a state fair, to a family reunion.”

Bachmann explained that the “state fair” feel comes from the fact that the tea party activists “take their own time, at their own expense, to figure out how to come to one of these rallies bring all their friends with them.”

“It is like-minded people who love our country and want our economy to work again,” said Bachmann, a favorite of the tea party crowds. “They're really forward-looking people. What they're concerned about is the next generation. They really want to leave the country better for the next generation. They're really a wonderful group of people.”

1. Michelle, for 8 years I know of MILLIONS across the country that spent their own money...
getting to anti-war rallies. Didn't see you getting all 'warm & fuzzy' on that one.

2. Forward looking???? HAHAHAHAHA
The only reason they are looking forward is to avoid having to blame bush for the mess we're in! They'd rather look backward to the 1950's when women and minorities knew their place!

3. These people are not happy.
Happy people don't compare the president to Hitler or carry guns to rallies.

5. I was thinking circus, not state fair.
How can this be a movement? The fight for civil rights was a *movement*. I can't understand how these "white males over 45"(*) feel disadvantaged.

16. A family reunion...complete with
the lecherous, ibecile uncle that can't spell that hits on the teenage girls, and the drunk aunt railing against nothing in particular. Yeah, that sounds about right.
