12. This still can't surpass the greatest written words I have ever seen
I was on guard duty in Germany (US Army loves to guard things)

I was on a 4 hours on - 8 hours off schedule

You would be surprised how spiritually and emotionally cleansing 4 hours alone by yourself can be.

Luckily I was in a 8X8 guard tower about 30 feet off the ground.

Lots of graffiti on the plywood walls. Graphic depictions, declarations, hometown representin' from all over the USA, etc.

and then

I saw it

I stared at it for about 45 minutes. Too many emotions and ramifications to list here. It was vulgar yet pure. Direct but layered.

it read

LICK
MY
F**K

51. Now that is a spellbinding concept, I feel for you.
I'm sure a million thoughts went on in you head for that 45 minutes. I bet you didn't blink for minutes at a time. Reminds me of Panama City and a certain group of monkeys that didn't mind throwing shit at me and a friend on duty. Vulgar yet pure.

55. Funny story (small world)
A guy from my hometown-possibly the greatest pizza delivery guy ever but that is another story

He ended up joining the Army which no one expected

on patrol in Panama or so the story goes the monkeys were throwing things at him and his platoon
he freaks out/gets sick of it and fires off a flare into the sky
The canal shuts down. Completely. International incident.

He ended up in Key West and died at a young age but he had a hell of a life.

I know by the time I reached 30, I'd lived at least 2 lifetimes worth of 'stuff'. One thing people don't realize is monkeys can throw their poo REALLY FAST AND HARD! +{

58. You may have experienced The Zahir.
Jorge Luis Borges described the sensation of being in the presence of a thing so special that afterward one's mind cannot think of anything else...

The Zahir

In Buenos Aires the Zahir is a common twenty-centavo coin into which a razor or penknife has scratched the letters N T and the number two; the date stamped on the face is 1929. (In Gujarat, at the end of the eighteenth century, Zahir was a tiger; in Java a blind man in the Sukarta mosque who was stoned by the faithful; in Persia, an astrolabe that Nadir Shah ordered thrown into the sea; in the prisons of Mahdi, in 1892, a small compass, wrapped in a shred of cloth from a turban that Rudolf Karl von Slatin touched; in the synagogue of Cordoba, according to Zotenberg, a vein in the marble of one of the twelve hundred pillars; in the Jewish quarter of Tetuan, the bottom of a well.) Today is the thirteenth of November; last June 7, at dawn, the Zahir came into my hands; I am not the man I was then, but I am still able to recall, and perhaps recount, what happened. I am still, albeit only partially, Borges. ...

You are wiped clean for life. I was raised in the Southern Baptist church. Luckily, I figured out how bogus it was at about 19 years of age. While I'm not a Christian anymore, I do allow Jesus in my pantheon because he knows how to play well with others. His dad, not so much.

20. Stephen Colbert had a petty good bit on that a few years ago
"Banning homosexual unions or posting the 10 commandments on a public building is small government. But if you're caring for the poor, turning the other cheek, or sitting down with tax gatherers that's big government. In other words, mentioning Jesus in your speech is small government. Doing what Jesus asked is big government."

And they vote every time. And they drive their sister, daughter, brother, cousin, husband and mother to the polls. And they tell their neighbor how bad Obama is for the country. And NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and Fox News tell their viewing audience that the entire country is outraged about the same issues the Teabaggers are. They feel like a part of some huge movement, even though they are not.

Don't dismiss them.
