Just back from Kennedy with two stranded Brits.
Thanks to whoever gave us the link to Travelers Aid.
<http://www.travelersaid.org/>

We signed up last night and they phoned this morning. We went and picked up two stranded elderly ladies and we're boiling water for tea right now.

Travelers Aid has set up a booth near the lost baggage, I'm told, and they're coordinating placements with volunteer families and households as fast as they can. Our ladies have told us they were told there is no way back to London until next Monday earliest. Not this Monday, tomorrow. NEXT Monday.

There are cots set up all thru the airport and the National Guard is keeping order. None of which we heard from local or national media, btw.

Tomorrow is the birthday of my mom's brother, who died a year ago this past Easter Sunday. I had to be back in Manhattan and I hated leaving her alone.

Now she has two lovely people, one near her own age, who need her help. You have no idea how glad I am to have them there right now.

41. You did help. These women wouldn't be at my mom's without you.
We wanted to do it and had no idea how. Traveler's Aid told us they were in tears. Knowing they had someplace to go made a world of difference to them. The 81-year-old mother is diabetic, too. Stress does not help with that. Now we need to help her get her meds refilled since she only has enough left for four days.

These ladies have been completely cheerful since we picked them up at Kennedy. YOU did that.

We signed up with Traveler's Aid late last night. I have no idea if there was an email because it would have gone to my Mom's and she rarely checks it. But they did call around noon today. It takes them a bit. And the time of the stranding keeps lengthening.

85. What a kind thing to do. I'm sure you'll have two new friends by the end of the week.
:applause:
Hope others follow your lead.

88. That's why I posted. We only took two. There are so many more.
People budget vacations carefully. A lot of people have run out of money even for food. It's not considered the kind of disaster where they have to start thinking about hot meals. Except it is.

91. Actually, pretty normal for my mom.
The list of people (and animals) she's helped would probably go on for miles.

What she say is, "When you have the strength to help, you have to. Because there will be days you don't have the strength and someone else will have to do it for you."
