Who Will Vote to Tax Cannabis in 2010?

Now that the entire universe has focused on California's push to legalize herb, the question remains: How many people will actually vote for it? The number one statistic referenced is a year-old Field Poll that says 56 percent of voters support legalization and taxation. But there are some problems with that.

1. I think the reasons given here sum up nicely the reasons this initiative will fail. . .
Ironic, isn't it, that an initiative to tax cannabis is intended to legalize it, when it was a tax act that paved the way for it to be criminalized so many years ago?

I just wish it would be legalized because it's the right thing to do, and not because people think they can garner another "sin tax."

That said, I'll be stunned if this initiative comes within 10 points of passing.

2. I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of people voting for it
Incidentally, if you wish to be accurately informed about the legal and the medical aspects of the article, a recent (like, this month recent) study by the Congressional Research Service, part of the government, is refreshingly accurate and pragmatic. supporters of legalization will find many, many things to like in it:

This is a fine example of your tax dollars actually at work.
