If 'they' came to get your guns & bibles, which would you give up first?
Edited on Mon Apr-19-10 04:47 PM by Philosoraptor
My idiot born again brother swears up and down that President Obama is coming for his guns and bibles. He's always had bibles, but last year he bought his first gun when President Obama took office.

Me? You can have my bible, I don't give a damn, and I'm smart enough to know that no one is coming for either one.

Would that be considered a "Two-fer?"

Well, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't get any bibles
I don't think there's one in the house.

And while there are a fair number of guns around here, most of them are antiques, a lot of them muzzleloaders or cap and ball pistols that nobody would be interested in confiscating anyway.

9. Bibles are so mass produced
I hardly think 'coming for them' would be in any way successful. In fact, I'm starting to suspect a secret bible breeding program using clone therapy.

19. Have you seen how books can be hollowed out to hold a gun?
A handgun can be nicely hidden inside a Bible that has been hollowed out in shape of a gun. I guess that would be a right wingers dream to have a deadly weapon combined with a book supposedly teaching peace and love.

Are there any songs about hypocrisy? If there is one it should be played every time a right winger speaks.

22. Now that's a toughie.
But I guess I'd give up the guns first -- since there are none.

But I do think that there's a bible around somewhere. The reason I'd want to wait on giving that up is that I'd have to look for it.

25. I've had guns for over 30 years, and not lost a bit of my liberal leaning nature
And while I've read a Bible, and even done a comparative religion class in back in the day, I have no use for such a thing as organized religion, nor any interest whatsoever in org.religion. I am spiritual, but that isn't the same scheme.

Since the gun is mere tool, I am not giving that up anymore than any other tool I use. My spirituality requires no book, or adherence to a story told by others, nor any physical object to achieve its end, and therefore wouldn't be subject to being taken away from me anyway.

42. Well said.
I don't personally own a bible, though I have access to some. But if I did, I'd certainly hand that over before I'd even think of letting someone touch either my shotgun or my rifle.

33. As long as they don't take my mythology collection, I'm OK
Frankly, it wouldn't bother me too much to get rid of my gun OR my Bibles, but if they too all the Bibles, it would leave a hole in my mythology/religion shelf. The lack of a gun would be a nuisance if a rattler showed up near the house. The .22 is a little small to stop an aggressive dog, so it has not been much use recently.

40. Well, since it would be highly illegal fro the government to go after either
Absent some specific cause, such as the owner becoming a felon or assaulting people with Bibles, I would say it's a pretty meaningless question.

I'll play though, Bible, because I'd rather spend an afternoon at the range than reading a Bible any day.

Even a snowy one.

I do have a Scofield Study Bible, but the fundies wouldn't like it: it's all eggheady and scholarly and stuff, with lots of footnotes, cross-references, alternate translations, etc. I doubt that they would even know what it was.
