The Royal Navy has arrived in Spain and will be taking "vulnerable" tourists home along with troops.

The Navy warship docked just before dawn to collect 220 troops returning home from Afghanistan who had been flown to Spain overnight because of the UK air shutdown.

Around 250 "vulnerable" tourists were also expected to board the ship in Santander for the 28-hour trip back to Britain.

But thousands of Brits who had flocked to the Spanish port on the advice of the Government were left furious after being refused a place on board the ship.
