On this day, I’d like to remind you of an episode of TWILIGHT ZONE that really stuck in my memory
and seems germane to the present in the USA.

"He's Alive" is a fourth-season episode of The Twilight Zone. It tells of an American neo-Nazi who is inspired by the ghost of Adolf Hitler

Closing narration

“ Where will he go next, this phantom from another time, this resurrected ghost of a previous nightmare - Chicago; Los Angeles; Miami, Florida; Vincennes, Indiana; Syracuse, New York? Anyplace, everyplace, where there's hate, where there's prejudice, where there's bigotry. He's alive. He's alive so long as these evils exist. Remember that when he comes to your town. Remember it when you hear his voice speaking out through others. Remember it when you hear a name called, a minority attacked, any blind, unreasoning assault on a people or any human being. He's alive because through these things we keep him alive.

46. yes, it does to me
This is a discussion board, and I recommend posts (and constituent threads) that I feel are worthy of discussion. I don't see the rec/unrec feature in terms of popularity or cheerleading like some people seem to. If it looks to me that the discussion thread isn't worth reading (even if the original post is), I'll unrecommend it because I think that's one of my roles in the community. By someone posting something about "unrec rah rah" as the first reply, they have assured that I won't read any further in the thread. By then unrecommending the entire thread I'm having an influence on what others will read on the front page. Likewise, I recommend posts and threads when I think people should read them.

If you're interested, I have a similar disdain for the "recommend!!one!" replies.

I guess that's better than hit and run and cowardly anonymity, although it is like executing the mother of a murderer for the actions of her son.

I completely disagree with you, but I give you credit for responding.

28. Someone will cultivate one.
They will need to have a clean background so as not to arouse suspicion with mainstream America-somewhat. Then they will gradually promote their evil agenda. They will start by making torture seem acceptable and taking away civil rights a little at a time. The Patriot Act is a perfect example.

35. Charisma is not the main thing needful to be Hitler
You simply need an absolute conviction that your ideology trumps reality, and that you are always right, and that anyone who opposes you is an enemy to be crushed.

That pretty much encapsulates every Republican.

47. Check out some of these Nazi quotes:
http://www.whale.to/b/nazi_q.html

"...Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. I works the same in any country." --Hermann Goering

"Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it and eventually they will believe it." --Adolf Hitler

"What luck for the rulers that men don't think." --Adolf Hitler

"The greatness of every mighty organization embodying an idea in this world lies in the religious fanaticism and intolerance with which, fanatically convinced of its own right, it intolerantly imposes its will against all others." --Adolf Hitler

"Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way round, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise." --Adolf Hitler

40. That's the episode I always think of when watching
anything about the tea partiers, Republicans and conservatives. They have been convinced by their authority figures that there is something to fear, and seem to be out of control, running wild in the streets with no real direction, but looking for a target that will prove their fears to be real.

Serling did many things that had a very distinct "tone" to it. At a time when people were not supposed to "question" standards and more's, Serling was leading the charge into thinking. He was brilliant at it, and his stories are timeless.

Thanks for the memory jolt...:pals:

Here's another possible true scenario - The Heat wave episode , catastrophic where the earth turned to over 110 degrees and very dry ? In the end is turned out the earth really was going to freeze or something.
A lot of weird worlds explored with Rod. Lets hope we don't have to live through any of them.
