Walmart Offering $45 Unlimited Cellphone Plan Nationwide
I didn't know about this:

Walmart has been beta testing their exclusive Straight Talk no-contract wireless service for months, but now the retailer will offer two low-cost wireless plans nationwide including an unlimited plan for just $45.

For $45, you get unlimited anytime minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data.

The catch? You probably won't be using much data on their disappointing line of phones that all sell for $100 without a contract—though a "Samsung 451" (a model number that brings up a Samsung set top box) promises full QWERTY and certainly implies a bit more functionality. The LG Slider 290, which doesn't handle much beyond email, is your other higherish-end option.

So would you buy a wireless plan from Walmart?

The actual provider will be att, spring or verizon with walmart being the middle man.

Its not like wallmart is running around putting up towers.

$45 for unlimited isn't bad at all.

that is what did in Circuit City (amongst other things). You are not going to beat them at that game. Toys R Us only exists because the toy companies are keeping them afloat.

Cell phone charges are way too high. They should have come down already, and those obscene contracts should have been gone by now too. Why should the consumer prop up companies that don't give them a break?

For once, yay Walmart! And only on this.

9. DON'T DEAL WITH WAL-MART. Just don't do it.
They are NOT the same as Target or any of the other big-box stores. There are specific reasons why they're in a class by themselves in their effect upon American culture and society.

Just say "No" to anything Wal-Mart is doing.

39. That is a valid point in some parts of the country...
... but in other parts we do have alternatives.

Aldi often beats Wal-Mart on grocery deals.
Costco is a far superior warehouse club than Sams any day of the week. Prices are higher, but products are of better quality.
Independent computer stores will give you much better service for your new computer than *any* big box store and if you're getting high end equipment the difference in cost is negligible... if cost is a concern some independent places will sell second hand equipment at a reasonable cost.
I don't know of any independent electronic or appliance dealers anymore... seems to be Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Sears, Target or Bust.
Clothing: Old Navy - still a chain but bargains can be had there. "closeout stores" like Ross, TJ Maxx can get you new clothing for less than Wal-Mart.
Big Lots - another closeout store - can get some deals.
Dollar General's getting big but they're a reasonable "small box" alternative to Wal-Mart.
And then there's ebay...

Mark.

No, I won't deal with Walmart.

Should Verizon offer something like that without Walmart, I probably would look at it, since I already have cell service with them.

21. $45 one-time-fee..yes.. $45 a MONTH, no way
I have that Metro plan.. $40 a month..unlimited includes all kinds of stuff ( I never use)..but for $40, it seemed to be the time for an "emergency" phone, since our regular land-line has actually gone bye-bye twice in a year..

My little red Metro phone sits on my desk..(I never carry it), but if our real phone goes out again, at least i can call people if I need to

22. Yup, I would, why not?
I don't like paying a lot for expensive plans, if Wally World offered a nationwide unlimited plan for 45 dollars a month, I would consider switching to them. I'm assuming that with this whole plan, there are no contracts or subsidized phones.

I would seriously consider it if they offered a decent phone like an Android based phone or something like that.

But would I ignore Wally World's plan just on the basis of "don't support the devil" mantra, blah. I want cheap cellphones.

24. I've had a nationwide unlimited plan from Virgin Mobile
for nearly a year now. It costs $49.00 a month and you don't have any contract. You can cancel anytime. You can find it on their website. Don't know why they haven't advertised it more. I bought an LG phone at radio shack and that is the phone I use. I think it was around $29.00 and has worked great for about two years now.

As for your question, I would never buy anything from Walmart. The only reason they are probably doing this is because it looks like more cell phone cos. are going to have to now that Virgin Mobile has done it.

On their website it looks like just unlimited calling and texting; if the Walmart plan includes all three, then yes, it's a better price.

44. I do have online access. But it's not free. I think it's a dollar a day.
Since I don't use it that often, I just keep some money in my account and if I'm not near a computer, I can get online on the phone. But if someone uses the phone a lot for online access, they would probably need a better phone than the LG I have.

37. I don't shop at WalMart, and would never buy anything requiring continuing payments from them
But let's face it, the other cellphone providers are charging way too much for their coverage, and if this brings the prices down for Verizon, AT&T, T Mobile, Sprint, and whomever else is left in that market, then the net result will be a good thing.

For the record, I'm currently without a cell phone at all, but would consider an "unlimited" plan in the future, if the price was right (but not from Wally World)

Sure I have to sign a contract, but we have 4 phones. OK, we don't have unlimited data on them, but we pay about 150/month for more minutes than we use, unlimited text and it would only be $25/month more for unlimited data for all phones.

Plus Walmart sucks.
