Outrageous!!!!!
God Damnit

Police chased reporters away from the White House and closed Lafayette Park today in response to a gay rights protest in which several service members in full uniform handcuffed themselves to the White House gate to protest "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

People who have covered the White House for years tell me that's an extremely unusual thing to do in an area that regularly features protests.

A reporter can be seen in the YouTube video above calling the move "outrageous" and "ridiculous."

1. Repeated 'incursions' into White House space makes the Secret Service antsy.
And I'm sure that even touching the gates is considered an incursion.

I'm not saying that they should close the area, I fully support the goal of the protesters, but I'm not surprised.

3. Lafayette Park was closed off Sunday in the am...

and there was yellow caution tape around each end of the walkway outside the WH..so not sure why they are claiming it's so unusual..I jogged around there about 9am, and by the time I jogged back around 11am, it was all closed off, and you couldn't cross the park or the boulevard..

19. I don't think that I responded in that thread as it was
a link given to me by that author in another thread that I did respond in. I wasn't trying to be snarky or anything, I suppose I just wrongly assumed that the thread would've gotten more attention.

14. 1.) I'm kicking your OP. 2.) You ARE among friends. 3.) I do think what apparently happened
was heavy-handed and insensitive, to say the least, BUT---

4.) a deep breath and some cooling off time might be in order. You are justifiably pissed off, but teeing off on your allies because they aren't EQUALLY pissed off isn't moving the ball down the field.

16. Please let everyone who isn't as pissed off as me that they are amongst friends too.....
And all that is asked is to stand up for EQUALITY and to stand against bigotry in all forms.

And possibly support those who are fighting for their rights. The attacks some make to defend a person and that persons policies in the face of such hypocrisy is maddening. I don't think anyone could blame someone like me for feeling the way i do.

So instead of me reminding me of how great these friends are, please let them know I am not the enemy. It might actually help get DADT overturned.

Has anyone called, like some of the reporters who were there eg, authorities to get some information on why the area was closed down?
