video shows taliban taking over us base abandoned a few days ago
http://rawstory.com/rs/2010/0420/video-shows-taliban-reclaiming-abandoned-base/

Taliban fighters have taken over a remote base in Afghanistan abandoned by US forces, according to a video aired by the Arabic television station Al Jazeera. American troops left the base just days ago as part of a strategic redeployment in the war-torn country.

A video released by the Taliban shows armed men reclaiming the US base, which is strewn with litter left over by American troops. Rebels say they recovered ammunition and fuel, though a Pentagon spokesman said the Americans had left no ordinance behind.

"There is a lot of ammunition left behind – mortars, rockets, and missiles," a Taliban spokesman claimed in an interview with the station. "This, God willing, we will against them."

"In just days after the Americans withdrew, the Taliban have control of the area," an Al Jazeera reporter says over a broadcast of the clip.

watch the video...war is so stupid..this war as well...more clusterfuck..imo...everywhere i turn these days..clusterfuck..just so wasteful...

3. the former military base of the occupation forces used to be a lumber yard
Edited on Tue Apr-20-10 11:52 PM by Alamuti Lotus
...owned by a local businessman named Hajji Matin. The Afghan puppet government outlawed the logging industry there (economically choking the Korengalis) and then the US military invaded and seized the lumber mill itself to use as their base to occupy the valley (which, in fact, they were never able to do. After losing members of his family to NATO bombing raids, this businessman became the local (and now, triumphantly successful) resistance commander. But yeah, vile nasty terrorists all, thank gawd freedom and democracy are on the march, the corner has been turned and the light is within sight: victory is near(*).

(*)--near indeed, just not for the occupyers..

13. At what point in time are we speaking of?
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 07:08 PM by Alamuti Lotus
Before or after your military seized his livelihood and your jets murdered his family? The timing is an important factor for considerations of status in this context, as such events tend on occasion to radically alter the outlook of involved persons.

14. He was an opportunistic, murderous thug in the 1990s
...and nothing changed after his mansion got a new guided missile skylight. If he's really been to Mecca it was only because it was on the way to whatever child trafficking ring he was visiting in Saudi.

You need to source your propaganda a little better. Hint: not everyone living in Afghanistan is the noble savage you seem to want them to be.

22. i believe they have had a base there for several years, and had taken that many casualties there.
they didn't just show up there and leave, for what that's worth.

Its not like the US carried away the buildings. Of course the Taliban would re-enter their land.

Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 03:53 PM by xiamiam
its not going to be a surprise in 5 or ten years when more lives lost and trillions spent when they take over the land we are now occupying..but by that time the pipeline will have been completed

11. I see no ammunition left behind.
I see a handful of ammo boxes that are filmed with the lids closed. When was the last time you saw anyone film closed ammo boxes? You always open them up for the cameras.

I see a single fighter claiming the bullets around his neck were left behind. And I hear a claim of rockets and grenades left behind, but no pictures of them.

I also hear Urdu in the background, and see a lot of new clothing. These aren't Afghans, at least most of the ones being filmed.

On the plus side, they're being filmed. Hopefully someone better at this than me is paying attention, too.

16. you saw ammunition and you chose to believe it was not
you also saw people in the video who you choose not to believe are afghani..

even though this base is in the middle of nowhere ...and the only thing one of the men interviewed said was that they wanted peace and not to be occupied by any other country..guess you didnt see that either or perhaps he was a prop as well..

gheezh

17. I'm sorry, I missed your area of expertise.
...Is is something other than the ability to swallow Taliban propaganda whole?

What language, pray tell, did you hear the man being interviewed speaking? And what language were the men behind him speaking?

Tell me, what kind of bullets were wrapped around the young man who claimed they were US ammunition?

Finally, the three unopened ammo boxes: do you know what they are meant to contain?

Find some other kid to mouth off at, I'm not your daisy.

Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 04:25 PM by Godhumor
Smells a lot more like propaganda from the Taliban than actual fact (Why the Americans even left us missiles to use! Against them! Ha ha, Americans are stupid and should be demoralized!) considering the base wasn't overrun, and the US military had the time to redeploy "correctly". I'm going to go ahead and believe the Pentagon's spokesperson on this one.
