European Cockpit Association: Mixing Commercial and Safety Decisions Risks Lives

Commercial Aviation is the safest form of transport – but only because for decades we have separated commercial and safety decisions. ECA, which represents the nearly 39,000 Professional Flight Crew from 38 European countries who are asked to deliver this safe transport system, call on safety authorities to put safety before commercial considerations.

The union is angry that the European authorities has succumbed to pressure and delegated the responsobility to each airline. Airlines can now fly on their own risk. This is probably after mounting pressure from the large airlines, as Lufthansa, KLM and others has done successful test flights.

This could get interesting.

2. Theyre protected in part
by the fact that until further notice there won't just be wipe over with a damp cloth inbetween flights - there has to be a complete engine inspection for damage. Probably be quicker for the airlines to change engines to ones which have been workshop inspected on each occasion as long as they do the nuts up. Late '60s/early 70s an engine fell off a plane taking off from Heathrow into a nearby reservoir. It wasa recovered quite easily, overhauled and put back into service.
